We've given Roe so many chances and usually they always fall short. This time was different, new waiter was awesome. Usually we wait 30 mins or so for a drink. Really enjoyed all of the flavors in the poke cevichos. It all pops so well together it creates a level of umami. Mrs had the fisherman's platter with halibut & salad instead of rice. Only complaint for the platter is that it's $30 and the portion is not big. But their fish is SUPER fresh. Good cocktails too! And love sitting outside & people watching! read more

In reviewing the previous reviews on this location, I am shocked by the experience I had compared to what others have shared. And, quite frankly, there is no excuse for the poor quality of food we received the night of our visit. I am a seafood junkie, so it is truly my hope that this may have been a one-off, but there really is no telling. Well, here is the story, my wonderful daughter took me to Roe Seafood for Mother's Day last w, and what should have been an extraordinary night ended up being a distasteful night to remember. SETTING: If you are looking for an aesthetically cute spot to go out on a date or even eat with your family, the exterior/interior set-up is perfect. Super cute, interior dining area; plus, the gorgeous lights which hung perfectly on the stand-alone tree really helped to soothe the soul, and that's if you are into nature. There is also a trendy outside eating area which also had pretty lights on the trees. A great backdrop for pictures SERVICE: The overall service was so/so. Let me explain why. The greeting hostess was really snarky and not welcoming at all. We had a reservation scheduled for 730pm, and we arrived at 7. She reminded us of our reservation time, which we were well aware of, and quite honestly, we did not mind waiting outside if needed for our party. She appeared to be annoyed and wavered when I asked to see the outside dining area. Let me start with the good: As I mentioned before, the ambiance was perfect. The patio is super cute, and it is certainly a great backdrop for pictures. The staff did an excellent job ensuring the heaters were kept on, which is definitely a plus! Well-lit heaters on a chilly night are definitely needed and appreciated. In addition, patrons were evenly spaced out to ensure everyone's safety and comfortability. Another positive was our wonderful server, Morgan. She was beyond exceptional. She really went out of her way to ensure we felt comfortable. I loved that! Especially with it being a day all about me.. it was nice to be pampered and waited on. -- GOOO MORGAN, YOU ARE A ROCKSTAR! She made sure to check on us frequently, and every time there was an error, which there were MANY, Morgan very nonchalantly went to the back to fix it. This young lady deserves a gold star! She exemplified superior customer service skills and was ultimately a pleasure to be around. I must add, Each time we revealed a problem, she listened and followed up with a solution! Almost all of the mistakes seemed to come from the BACK!! The person who was "trying" to make the food. Since it was Mother's Day, they offered a limited menu which was not stated on their website. So everything that we planned to eat was not available for the night. It was my night, and I'm a fan of anything seafood, so I started w/an appetizer. The bacon-wrapped scallops seemed to be a perfect way to kick off the festivities. Well, what should've been pan-seared scallops turned out as 3 charred scallops?! I don't know what the explanation was for that one. Three measly scallops, for 24$, were not consumed by this momma. If it wasn't for our amazing server, Morgan, I might have sent it back to the kitchen. It was my first time eating at Roes, & it was Mother's Day, so I really wanted everything to go well. I DID NOT want to start the night w/complaints. So, I figured be quiet and wait for the next meal to make its way to me. THE MEAL- I ordered included a New York steak, Asparagus, a slab of potatoes, and I added shrimp on the side-"surf and turf style." 60$. This is where it really got bad. I think the cook just poured "smoked oil" over everything [insert hurling face]. THE STEAK, THE ASPARAGUS, THE BLOCK OF POTATO.. everything just reeked & tasted smoked- no other flavor. So disgusting!! And no one provided me w/a steak knife. I guess they figured I could use a butter knife To kill the smoked taste, I asked for steak sauce or even just BBQ sauce, anything to mask the deplorable taste of the meal, & one of the male servers (w/dark hair) laughed at me for making the request & then he responded, NO we don't have anything. I even asked for salt and pepper, and the young blonde girl from the back left salt packets on the table - HUH?!! I could not take it anymore! We ended up having dessert elsewhere. To improve the experience for other customers, I'd advise the owner to send one of their family members as a secret shopper. That way, he/she can have a better idea of who needs to be removed/re-trained from their establishment. I'd start with the greeting host, as she was NOT friendly- AND; the cook! I'd hope this feedback is taken as constructive criticism that leads to corrections being made. Our party of 6 literally "gave" your store nearly 500$ for gross food. I am extremely disappointed! We enjoyed a visit for brunch today. The staff were so good to us, from the host to the server, to the bus person. Our fish filet sandwich was delicious, and dressed with the freshest ingredients. A cool breeze occasionally wafted over our indoor table, which was graced with a lovely petite flower arrangement. We'll be back! read more

Tonight was a little disappointing....we spent $200 on dinner and the quality wasn't good. The salmon was undercooked and the melody of veggies with it was...well...a nice try. They charge for bread and it didn't come with butter! The grand finale was dessert...we waited 20 minutes for a sorbet and received the check and no sorbet. On a recent cold mid Fall evening we bundled up and took a seat in the heatlamped patio. You know - toasty backside frigid front. For a Saturday night @ 7:30 though it was quiet. The on-line menu promised a sea-bass entree - that was enough to brave the chill for this guy. Our waiter, an older gentleman, was a wanabee standup comic and nice to a fault. Our party ordered the wild Mexican shrimp with Grilled polenta, fish & chips, a kale salad with shrimp and my Seabass accompanied by a decadent potato pave which I chose to sub with sautéed bok choy & carrots and save on the 500 calories of cream and butter. Trying all I had to admit all were good , if not great - and attractively presented but my seabass was really quite nicely grilled with an easily removed crinkly skin revealing a moist and delicious fillet. The veggie side though was uncommonly sweet which leads me to believe it was sugared to accompany its normal Salmon entree (farmed unfortunately) and it threw off the overall enjoyment of my entree. The Fish &,Chips were good but not exceptional but the wild Shrimp were as tasty as a grilled shrimp gets - though the grilled polenta with a grilled entree was a bit overgrill - a sauce of some sort on top would be advised. Yelp reviews were generally good but whether Roe, at the far end of Belmont Shores' 2nd street District is one of The best Seafood Restaurants in Long Beach is debatable. Would I come back for a 2nd taste? Perhaps. At around $75 per couple with only 1 alcoholic drink among us and no desserts - Roe might be a special occasion place than a casual drop in. And the lack of diners on a Saturday night? "It's cold man and you know how spoiled Southern Californians are?" Proffered our guffawing waiter. Yeah, you know he had a point. read more

My husband and I was not that hungry so we got 1 plate to share: Smokey Seafood Chowder. Our server recommended we add an extra baguette to it as most customers always get another if sharing. We did that and I'm glad we did! The baguette was warm, crunchy on the outside, soft inside. It was sooo good. Thomas, our server was great and enthusiastic! Think this is the best seafood place on second. Solid happy hour too, can get a beer and HH item that could be considered dinner. The regular menu is a little pricier bit worth it if you got the $$. Came here a year ago for my birthday with family and we had a good experience. Came back again a year later for lunch and our server Jonathan was great. Gave us the history of the tree that was there. He was also very attentive and quick with our orders. Happy hour menu recommendation must: Oysters $2 each or $12 for 6 Best crunchy roll $10 reg $16 Drinks: Moscow Mule Our fave dish was the bacon wrapped Mahi $16 (not on hh menu) I always liked their decor here and that their restrooms here is actually CLEAN! I hate it when restrooms are gross at restaurants. Glad they also have a baby changing station in one of the stalls and that it was kept clean. They answered any questions we had and gave recommendations based on what seafood we like. We had the following: Half a dozen of Oysters Clam Chowdah Fresh Clams, Green Chile, Celery, Potatoes, Onions, Leeks, Cream, Butter, Fresh Herb - Added Garlic bread for $3 more. HIGHLY RECCOMEND with the soup. IT IS SO DARN DELICOUS! - French baguette, butter, garlic, and seasoning Banh Mi - lobster crab shrimp & pickled veggies, cilantre, and jalapeños (I reccomend squeezing lemon and topping with their signature salsa!) We just spent a week in Long Beach and we had the opportunity to dine here with our Son who lives there. We went to brunch because of recommendations from family and the availability of outdoor dining. (My wife is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment, so outdoor dining or delivery are our only options). We were blessed with beautiful weather. Our wait staff Mary took excellent care of us. Our coffee mugs and water glasses were kept full. All of the staff were very attentive. All four of us ordered something different and every single dish was amazing! It's always hard to know which reviews to trust on Yelp, especially during a pandemic that impacts supplies and staff hiring. The reviews for Roe, both here and elsewhere on the web, are often mixed. But here was our situation: it was our 33rd wedding anniversary, and we didn't want to have to fight work traffic to get to someplace like Fishing with Dynamite or The Arthur J. up in Manhattan Beach. And amid Delta, we wanted someplace with outdoor seating. In Long Beach. We were wary. But the reservation we made on Yelp turned up when the hostess searched, along with my request to sit in the outdoor, back patio. We were pleased to see a really nice patio, with tables far apart from each other. And then our waiter, Christian, arrived. I ended up taking all of his recommendations (entree, drink, dessert), and I was very, very happy. My wife had the Simply Grilled mahi mahi, which was served with asparagus. I had the Pacific Sea Bass, which--like the mahi mahi--was perfectly cooked. Mine also came with an impressive slice of potato pave (layered, scalloped potatoes with cream and thyme--Mm). Both dishes were my ideal of how to serve fish: simply prepared, not covered with cloying or spicy sauce (or crusted with macadamia nuts or the like). Just a little lemon/butter sauce. So you actually taste the fresh fish. And without a ton of salt. We were over the moon. And did I say it was our anniversary? Christian's recommendation for dessert was the Banana Cream Pie. It was a perfect, not overly sweet, end to the meal. One more thing: I'm not a big fan of live music in restaurants, and I was kind of dreading it (after seeing that it would be happening out back). I've had bad experiences with strolling musicians. But the guy playing guitar and singing was actually very good, and the musical choices really added to the experience. An enjoyable evening. We live nearby so quietly frequent Roe. It's the best bar and dining near us. We have ridden the highs and lows with them these past few years from very questionable service to absolutely terrible entertainment. However, in the past year they really seem to have gotten it together. Hannah as hostess is so warm and friendly you don't mind waiting for a table. Tonight our waiter Chase was exceptional- a professional waiter who knew the menu and was able to read his customers - attentive but not intrusive. Food is consistent, not sure I've ever had a bad meal. Just a note...they do have LIVE music which is rare in "the shore" it can be very loud at night so this isn't the place for a intimate conversation. Call Hannah she'll let you know. read more

Oysters served with very strong vinegar (malt?) and very thick cocktail... paste? Shellfish not separated from shells so you get to do that lovely knife scraping yourself. I've been coming here for over 6-7 years living down the street and never coming back. The last time I had a great poke bowl here was March 2020 the first weekend of the first pandemic shutdown. Their salmon poke bowl with brown rice and seaweed salad was amazing and great portion for the $20. They closed for months during the pandemic to remodel and change their name, it's apparently no longer Roe Xpress. Anyway, I went back when they reopened Fall 2020 to find out they only have tuna poke? Weird. I waited a few months for them to get their act together but Winter 2020 the employee told me they removed salmon from their menu forever?? Such a shame..... years of poke enjoyment all crushed by this sad reality. Their salmon poke was literally do die for. Bring it back or just shut down at this point tbh. read more

A superb Long Beach seafood restaurant featuring raw and cooked selections from their adjacent fish market. The quality of the oysters and scallops is superb. They have multiple preparations if fresh fish including many sushi selections and Asian-inspired whole fish. Wines are well selected and reasonably priced. Service is friendly and efficient. Tip: avoid the seafood tower if there are less than four in your party. In all an excellent dining experience highly recommended. read more

I came here on a semi full stomach. We were gonna go to roe xpress for the seafood platter but we saw that roe was open so decided to try it out. Plus you can order things from roe xpress anyways. I don't know how to feel about this one. I think xpress is significantly better if I'm only judging the food. Don't get me wrong the service is great and the cocktails unique (buffalo milk like in catalina)...but the food could be much better. I did the checkin to get ceviche. They gave me literally 2 giant handfuls that could fill a 2qt deli cup...for 2 people. Not sure if it was because it was the last of the day and they were trying to get rid of it or what. It wasn't bad though and came with chips. We also ordered their clam pasta. We thought it would be more on the light clam broth side but it came out creamy and there was no clam flavor at all. I liked the pasta but it was disappointing. A dish I did enjoy was the shrimp cocktail soup. I can't find it on the online menu anymore but I really enjoyed how it was a seaweed tomatoey flavor soup. It was a bit too much broth but you couldn't see what was in it. It has full pieces of uni and shrimp as well as mushrooms and veggies but they're all submerged in the soup. Maybe when I return I will try the seafood tower and if they decide to have new dishes. For now I"ll stick to xpress. read more

Was so excited to eat here. The service was horrible, food so so. Told my waiter that I was allergic to bell peppers and I ordered the seafood stew which was 100% all bell pepper based. He didn't come near us once the food was dropped. We had to flag down bussers to order drinks. When he finally came over I told him I couldn't eat the soup as it was bell pepper based, he made me feel like it was my fault. In some ways it was I should have asked but I didn't touch it and he still charged us for it. Shame lovely setting crappy service... from this waiter anyway... read more

I got to try some of their new cocktail menu and I have to say I was so pleased... the Pear fiori Prosecco martini is delicious and beautiful with a flower in the middle of the cube ball, I also enjoyed their berry elixir mule and the empress 76.... the food has always been consistently great... happy hour 3-6 with great prices for drinks and food.... great patio in the back and Rick our bartender was amazing he helped guide us with the wine and cocktails and just made absolutely amazing culinary drinks for us.... this is why I keep coming back for the ambience, service and food/drinks read more
