Mediocre at best; 1.5stars for service, 4 stars for food quality= 3 star review. Came to this establishment on a Sunday 6:30 with a decently sized party (7-8). Was told there wouldn't be a wait when we called earlier yet when we arrived, we were told it would be a 1 hr wait if we wanted to sit together. AND YET NOW THAT I LOOK, the table that was originally "booked" is STILL EMPTY AFTER 1.5 hours. Btw, we opted to seat separately because we didn't have the time or patience to wait an hour for hotpot... When we were finally seated (10 min after we were told to seat separately) it took them another 5 minutes to bring a menu over and also give us our waters and even then, they didn't bring enough for all of us (gave us 2). In terms of food: Food was decent, quality was pretty good, as much as you could expect from an AYCE Shabu place. The best part is that I don't have to drive to Ktown anymore to get AYCE shabu. Their sauce dishes are nowhere to be seen unless you ask them for it. It seems they don't have enough for the amount of tables and people that are dining at the restaurant. The selection of veggies is plentiful, along with a lot of seafood selections. They also had some cooked foods such as: japchae, fried dumplings, and braised short ribs. Food tasted decent, it's just a shame they are too inexperienced in seating people and looking after their customers' needs. All in all, I would come back for the food but I have trust issues when it comes to the time to wait at the restaurant. Might have to bring my own sauce plates next time I come dine here too.... A suggestion? Hire more people to manage your establishment... it makes you look bad when customers have to wait so long for someone to come by to take orders and for water to be served... especially if it's a place where all you have to do is seat people, serve them water and their meats. read more

Reasonably priced AYCE Shabu with a self service bar for all your non-meat items and sauces. It's great cause you can get as much or as little as you want of each item and not feel like you have to eat something you were given but didn't want. The mean is thin & clean and not frozen. There is a huge variety of veggies, which are very fresh, and a big seafood spread of shrimp, fish, hard-shells, and fish balls. The place is better than Shabu88 in Rowland Heights in my opinion and unlike them they don't automatically add the tip in your bill. If you check in on Yelp you get a free soda or tea. What started off as a terrible experience ended up in a surprisingly pleasant dinner. We chose this place because yelp showed there was no wait. When we got here, the waitlist was promised at 9-19 minutes. We waited for over 45 minutes and still hadn't been called, but luckily the owner was at the front desk when we went to go complain. As a fellow small business owner, I fully sympathize with the difficulties of making EVERYONE happy, especially when things (like technology) let you down. This one-star review turned into five, because I give tremendous credit to owners that are willing to take responsibility for mistakes and do whatever they can to make it right. Bravo! I'm so glad we stuck it out, waiting way-too-long for a table, because Sun made it worth it. We will definitely be back, not only because of his great service but also because the AYCE offerings were way too vast and varied to try everything in one visit. And in the end, our meal ended up being really great. There is a HUGE vegetable and protein bar with all kinds of seafood (shrimp, crawfish, crab, mussels, etc...), veggies (mushrooms, onions, napa, bok choy, tons of others), tofu, shrimp balls, fish cake, and three or four different kinds of noodles. All of the meats we tried were fresh, quality cuts - our favorites were the pork belly (#9), wagyu (#1) and short plate (#8). There is also a huge selection of dipping sauces, which I loved, especially the garlic mayo, ponzo, and traditional sesame. Overall, the meal was delicious, and aside from the seating snafu, the service was fast and efficient. Got there at 6:45 and was told there's a 45 min wait on a Saturday night. In less than 15 min our table was ready...but here's the break down of our dining experience tonight: 1. Service: there's definitely room to improve....lots of room for improvement. We sat down for another 15min without anyone come over to take our order. Our drink didn't come out until midway through dinner. And it would have never came if I didn't remind them. When my tea came it was in a pot and they didn't bring cups. I flagged down the waiter after waiting a while and he apologized and got cups for me. Flagging someone down is almost like mission impossible. Some even avoid eye contact so they don't have to come. But once you get them, they all seems nice and apologetic. 2. Food: food is alright. Nothing spectacular. We got our fix of meat/seafood/veggies for the day. Actual menu has less items than the original they have on yelp right now, I'll try to post pictures. That doesn't bother us. Problem is when I order same meat again but different kind came out so I don't even know which is which and I didn't get the one I wanted the second time. No desert. 3. Atmosphere: loud, but spacious and clean. It's raining outside and there's a leak inside, but they kept it as clean as possible. 4. THE BILL: price for adult is acceptable $27 for dinner. But I feel the kid price is unacceptable. It's $2.35 per year old. My kids didn't eat much at all and still got charged a lot. What WOULD be acceptable is free for under 5 and maybe $1/2 price for under 12. Anything more than that is too much. The price and the service are not matching at this place. All the waitress and waiters walking around fast but they never came to you and ask you if you need anything. You have to keep calling them every time when you need to order something, or even just napkins. We told them we need more soup and we had to ask for 3 times! Funny things was the waiter didn't know how to hold the pot and spilled on the table, his own hands and sleeves, glad it didn't spilled on my little ones. I do feel bad that he burned his hands a little, but if he spilled on my kids and they got burned, there will be a lawsuit for sure! I stumbled in here on a complete whim after the waitlist for Boiling Point was too long. I didn't realize it was AYCE and was pleasantly surprised! The restaurant is very large and clean with individual pots for each person. I tried the spicy miso broth and the two beef options for their lunch menu, which is $19.99 a person. I really enjoyed their sesame sauce and ponzu. The broth was very flavorful and the meat had great marbling. The vegetables were frozen which wasn't too bad but the corn definitely tasted off because of it. Their udon noodles are also thinner than normal so make sure you don't overcook it! Staff there are friendly and helpful. Orders come up quickly. Portions are a bit small but it comes promptly. Meat are of decent quality. We also have enough staff to stop by to ask us how we are doing, that we don't have to flag any service person to order. The self service bar comes with all kinds of food to add to the shabu, such as crab, crawfish, shrimp, vegetables etc and it is all self services, grab as much as you want. I've been here twice! The broth I got the first time was the Sukiyaki broth. I highly recommend that one if you like hints if sweet and savory. The only downside to the sukiyaki broth would be that it was a dark broth, so I wasn't able to see if I got all the vegetables that I put in. The second time I went, I got the vegetable broth. The broth by itself was savory and reminded me of the soups my mom makes for dinner. However, after cooking my vegetables, I didn't taste any of the broth's flavor in the vegetables. I don't know if that's because I'm cooking vegetables in a vegetable broth or not... Overall, I thought the broths were both deliciously made. The salad bar is amazing! Theres many different selections of vegetables, noodles, and seafood.
