First off if you sit in the bar the bartender James is phenomenal , I mean really upmost quality service I was actually kind of shocked how good the food is here. Tried what is known as a Tucson iconic restaurant for a date night. Appetizer: blackened calamari - tasted more burnt unfortunately - lemon butter couldn't offset it Entrees: I had the bbq duck. -Wished it was cooked for to medium versus well done so it was just a tad chewy. -The bbq sauce is sweet and vinegar based which helped balance the fattiness of the duck skin. I think the same bbq sauce was used to glaze the duck however I thought it was too light. my wife had the bison, medium rare. -steak was cooked correctly to medium rare -wasn't seasoned well so it was bland -the garlic mashed potato was good. Dessert: - the creme brulee was good but not mind-blowingly amazing. - the apple rum bundt cake was okay. I couldn't taste the apple nor the rum. It tasted more like a spice cake. It had a cream cheese frosting on it. Overall: - we were seated outside which was a lot quieter than the inside. - not sure why they would use a public radio channel for background music. very odd. - wished the bread they served was warm. Room temperature bread with cold butter doesn't go well with spreading it. - for the food prices, we had expected it to be more upscale. We went for some Filet Mignon. None of us are much steak eaters, but i thought I'd be a good treat for us. The Filet Mignon was juicy and tasty. But they will always ask you how well do you want your steak. So I wanted mine well done. Potatoes and vegetables are good too. Nice quiet place with a cool vibe to it. Went here right when we moved to Tucson after hearing it was an institution. Ambiance was fine and so was service. But the food was horrible. The Caesar was just bitter lettuce and flavorless dressing. Everything was oddly sweet and what wasn't was bitter from being burnt on the grill. I visited with friends last weekend. There's a nice outdoor area and the inside is dimly lit making it a nice place for a romantic evening. The menu had many delicious options making it difficult to decide and tempting to come back for another dinner. Our waiter was wonderful. He knew the menu very well and was on top of it when filling our drinks and getting us seconds for alcoholic beverages My prime rib was wonderful and mashed potatoes are always a great side. Today my family and I went to celebrate my 76 birthday. I was very impressed with food, service and ambiance. When we entered the restaurant hostess's was very friendly and polite and treated us with respect, she took us to the table and wished us an enjoyable experience. I was so impressed with everything from the staff how they treated us to the food that was excellent plus the atmosphere was amazing. If anyone loves excellent food, with excellent service and great atmosphere, I would hardly recommend for anyone to go there and enjoy. I just like to warn you prices are little bit more than your average restaurant, but it is worth it. I will be going there more frequently. Absolutely amazing!!! We ate off of the happy hour menu. Sit outside, it was a bit breezy and wonderful after a nice rain storm. Start with the deviled eggs; you won't be sorry. The Cork Tucson--formerly Cork 'n Cleaver and Jonathan's Cork-- has been a personal and family favorite since opening in 1966. The adobe and brick restaurant building is tucked behind Jimmy John's at the junction of Wilmot and Tanque Verde. When Cork 'n Cleaver transitioned to Jonathan's Cork under chef Jonathan Landeen in 1994, my family worried that the restaurant would no longer be a place where we could be comfortable in a homey, yet upscale atmosphere. We needn't have worried. Chef Jonathan maintained not only the 1960s' restaurant decor, but also many of the menu items. He introduced ostrich meat and a few new and creative dishes to complement the traditional beef and seafood. Jonathan even kept on the menu one of Tucson's most unique offerings, the artichoke appetizer that many like me had grown to love. All good things eventually seem to run their course. Chef Jonathan understandably retired last year, after 29 delicious years at Jonathan's Cork. The restaurant became The Cork Tucson, under the ownership of Glenn and Sally Murphy. They pledged--at least initially--to keep the menu largely the same when they took over in late March 2023. My family visited the restaurant this past Saturday night. The menu changes were shocking. First, there's no artichoke to be found anywhere on the menu. It was an omen. I asked our waiter about it. He said they no longer offer it. Although each place setting included bread plates, there was no bread to be had...unless you wanted to fork over $4 for four 2-inch cubes of a dry ciabotta-like bread and one roll the size of a 50-cent piece. Salad also is a la carte now. None of the field greens were torn into bite-size pieces. It was therefore hard to eat with the long, coarse carrot shavings and red onions that ganished it. The greens were otherwise fresh and the buttermilk ranch dressing excellent. Dinner was where the meal really fell short. Prices have gone up DRAMATICALLY from last year. Except for pasta, entree prices include a choice of two sides: mashed potato, baked potato, Mexican rice, calabacitas (a Mexican squash dish), and Mexican street corn. Asparagus is $4 extra. I had the petite cut of prime rib, and my son had the regular cut. Both were overcooked and very fatty, but mostly tender. The meat had a vinegary flavor that we couldn't place. We then tried the Mexican street corn that we'd both ordered. It was covered with cotija cheese. When we took a bite, we found that it was drenched in raw balsamic vinegar. There was no grilled smokiness to the corn to tie it to its supposed street roots. In fact, the kernels were tough and tasted like frozen corn. The corn, cotija, and balsamic vinegar were a very unpleasant bite. If there'd been a polite way to spit the corn out, we'd have done it. My husband ordered a chicken dish that he'd had before the change in ownership (or a very similar one), and the portion size was half of what it had been. He called it, "just okay, nothing special," for the higher prices being charged. My daughter-in-law got the lobster mac and cheese, which was really "seafood" mac and cheese, if one read the description under the misleading menu title. It was a large portion of baked mac and cheese that was very light on the seafood, which included only a few morsels of shrimp and maybe a couple of lobster bits. The mac itself was dry and sticky. Service was extremely slow. Even the hostess was forced to delay our seating for several minutes because one of the owners (I assume) decided that it was important to interrupt and counsel her right then. While driving home, the restaurant's general manager called. He said the waiter told him about our disappointment over the artichoke not being available. Good news! It's supposed to return when it's in season. We'll sadly be hard-pressed to return. The "Mexican street corn" was that big a turn-off. The rest of the meal--with the sharply increased prices, poor service, inability to cook meat to temperature, and the ridiculous charge for sub-par bread, could only be termed below-average. read more

Walked into this old fashioned steakhouse expecting to order steak. Then I saw kangaroo on the menu. I'm intrigued by exotic food, so I ordered it. FABULOUS!!! So tender. Not gamey at all. My wife and I joined a group of friends at The Cork last night. I know The Cork's reputation and really looked forward to going. Well, I was disappointed. First, there were 22 of us. And yes, the reservation had been made well in advance. For 22 people they really should have assigned two servers. While our one server did the best he could, the service ended up being on the slow side. More disappointing was our steak (we're not big beef eaters so we commonly share). Grilled meat is what The Cork is known for. We ordered our steak medium rare. What we got was more on the well side of medium well. Just barely a touch of pink left in the middle. We did not send it back because we were really hungry by the time it arrived, and did not want to add additional burden to our already overworked server. We may give The Cork another chance at some point. But A.) we'll go early, hopefully on a slow night, B.) we will not go with a group, and C.) if we don't get our food prepared as requested, we will send it back and not return. read more

Slow service, I don't blame the server, clearly the place was undermanned with a few large parties. Like the dark rustic atmosphere. Food had problems - Lamb was tough, Shrimp was tough. An update to my many enthusiastic reviews for Jonathan's: To celebrate our wedding anniversary, we chose Jonathan's this week. We were surprised to feel a bit nervous as this was our first dinner out in over a year but the Cork was the perfect place to go. The food was as outstanding as always (ooh, those lamb chops!), and the obviously-standard health precautions made us feel absolutely comfortable. Masks are worn by all employees, and are required by patrons walking through the restaurant. We noticed deliberate spacing between tables. We had reserved a table for four outside and, although the day had been a warm one, at seven thea patio was pleasantly cool. It Is located on the east side of the building, and is covered but open p NMJ ceiling fans. Our server was excellent as always and even recognized me as a teacher of her daughter many years ago. She was attentive, though not intrusive, and took perfect care of us. I enjoyed the pistachio-crusted double-cut lamb chops and grilled romaine salad (my perennial favorites here!), and the hub had prime rib. Our daughter loves the bison and our son-in-law ordered an enormous bowl of green chile beef that came with flour tortillas. We completed our sublime food fest with flourless chocolate cake filled with peanut butter mousse and divine carrot cake. A perfect evening out for every reason. read more

The service was good but the food was mediocre at best and extraordinarily overpriced for what we received. My boyfriend and I came here for our one year anniversary. We had a reservation and were seated an given water very quickly but that's the only thing that happened quickly. We waited maybe five minutes for our server to appear at which point I asked for a cocktail menu. We waited another five minutes for the menu, which he set down and left immediately after. Ten minutes later he reappeared and I ordered a drink and we also got appetizers. The appetizers and drink came in about ten minutes which was fairly quick. We got the sautéed mushroom and venison three way, both of which were extremely delicious. We then finished the appetizers and waited for our server to reappear to order our entrees. It was about 20-30 minutes before he came to take our entree order and we had been finished with the appetizers for quite some time. I ordered the New York strip medium rare and my boyfriend ordered the baseball medium. The entrees came out in about 15 minutes. The steamed vegetables had no flavor and both our steaks were cooked incorrectly. Mine was much closer to medium than medium rare and my boyfriends steak was medium rare. The mashed potatoes were the best thing. I finished our meal and stopped our server to ask about desserts, at which time he said he would bring a menu. Ten minutes later he showed us the desserts and I ordered a creme brûlée. It was rather disappointing. The custard was not smooth but grainy, the whipped cream was definitely store bought. The tart sauce on the side was good. We waited another fifteen minutes for the check. TLDR: the service was not good. We waited far too long for everything. The server never came by to ask if the food was good. The food was ok. It wasn't correctly cooked and some of it was bland, very hit or miss. read more

My wife and I came here for date night and it did not disappoint. I really enjoy that they offer different types of meat to include venison (from New Zealand) and ostrich. The establishment was dark, cozy, and a little cold. For appetizers, we ordered the sauteed mushrooms, a hit, and you can see the steam coming off them in my picture. We also ordered the blackened calamari, which I thought was a miss. Although I like different takes on dishes, I am not used to calamari served this way (similar to a steak). I ordered the Baseball Teriyaki, a Cork tradition, selected Angus top sirloin marinated with soy sauce and pineapple juice which was very good. This was our first visit since it changed ownership. We ordered the Escargot which used to be to die for. Not so much anymore. The flavors used to be amazing but now smaller portion, less bread and recipe is sadly different. The 1 lb Prime Rib was $55. It was very fatty, very thin cut and tough. The restaurant was easy to find due to their roadside sign and parking looks to be limited but there's more on either side of the restaurant. It's one way parking by the entrance but amply spaced. Reservations are highly recommended since it's a popular venue due to their food. We ate there during St Patrick's Day weekend so most of the staff had worn something green and, so did some of the patrons therefore, the place was in a festive mood.
