Very nice spot for brunch! My friends and I came here after running a 5k in the morning and it was perfect to satisfy our hunger. Our servers were so nice and friendly, it felt like I was at home. It has been YEARS since I've been here. I went back today with some girlfriends. What reeled us in were the $5 mimosas! I'm not usually a big champagne person but I do enjoy a mimosa here and there... I must say, these were delish. Possibly the best one I've ever had. If I could give you 0 stars I would..... Been going to The Crooked Duck for 9yrs. I absolutely (Loved) this place. I went there with my husband many many many times before bringing my best friend making this a regular spot to eat an amazing breakfast.... I then started to bring other people. That's how much I truly enjoyed this place. I decided to take my mom two days ago here to The Crooked Duck. She had never been and it is beyond rare we get to go out to breakfast. I was beyond embarrassed by the service and the food. My heart sank and I shuttered when our food arrive. Random cold potatoes on a platter the server told us not to touch because it was scalding hot. What??? Why??? That had never been a thing! She stated it was to crisp the cheese on top. Why??? That is NOT a norm!!!! We take our fork and flip the clearly dry as a bone omelette open to see the most burnt dry omelette I have ever seen. Inside NO cheese!!!! The chef apparently, as stated by the owner tried to cover the burnt top with cheese. Something that is not the norm. Cheese is to be inside. But inside there was (tiny tiny tiny chopped bits) 4-6 pieces of zucchini and 3-4 pieces of bell peppers, and maybe 5 pieces of onions.... Nothing else. Where was all the veggies in a VEGGIE omelette. It was soooooo embarrassing because I had talked about this place for hours to my Mom prior. This is an omelette listed for $16+ which we ordered and then last minute they charge you extra... 50¢ an egg. So, $1.50 on omelettes. They do it to egg dishes yet not to the pancakes and French toast... so are they not made with eggs? The owner comes up to the table after offering to let us know that tariffs and the bird flu makes him up the charges. Yet it's nowhere on the menu indicating it. Only after you have sat for 10min going over the menu then ordering. Yet.... At stores the egg shortage have been lifted all over the South Bay. So, an almost 20$ after tax omelette with no veggie and 90% no cheese other than the 2"x2" of burnt cheese on top to hide the burned dry omelette... yet some how cold. What perplexes us.... How did you get a omelette to our table in 2min. Why because we believe it was premade and tossed in a skillet into the oven. Then slapped cheese to hide the burnt top. I wouldn't feed my dog this food. I'm so so very saddened by the quality, the service, and the establishment for cutting corners. If you're able to fit at a table on your laptop.... Then you should be in the kitchen as the owner overlooking your patrons dishes coming out. I would be embarrassed. Last, Next time... do not follow the customers out to their car and put your hands on their vehicle as you apologize and reiterate everything we assumed holding our door open as I'm starting my car not allowing my mom to shut her door!!!!!! I did not appreciate it at all. You made us feel so uncomfortable and my mom shouldn't have had to call you back and schooled you on tariffs!!! That if you buy in the US it doesn't affect you... so, as you said your egg location is in the US and we would assume all the rest of your produce has to be US purchased as well. So everything in the end... start your finish was horrific. You lost my family of 4, my mom, my brother and his family of 4, my best friend and her family of 5, and my grandpa's step son and his wife... along with my mom. We will not return ever again. My friend has been pressuring me to try this place for ages and i finally went! Everything sounded amazing but i wanted a more savory breakfast, even tho the banana french toast almost broke me (next time!) so i went with the kentucky biscuit and egg meal. My dad got the biscuit n gravy & a malted waffle and my mom got the avo joe omelet (i think thats what it was called). Both enjoyed their meals very much and my dad even commented how they warmed up the syrup so it didnt make the waffle cold fast. I loved my "sandwich". The ham was delicious and the biscuit was fluffy. The eggs were a bit overcooked and my dad and i felt like they skimped a little on the gravy for both items (and a side of gravy is like $3.50! Altho i dont know how much you get) but it was hot and tasty. I really enjoyed the side potatoes which were seasoned and crispy. The staff is super nice and the bathroom was clean! Its a smaller place but thankfully we didnt have to wait long. The decor is duck and water ski themed. My dad loves water skiing so he was happy to see some ski brands represented on the walls. Parking is a bit tricky here, it sits on a corner of PCH and a diagonal neighborhood street. There are only 3 spots in a tiny lot on the side but otherwise look to park on the street. Order: The Crooked Duck Omelet - duck chili (black beans, bacon, 5-spice duck), melted jack cheese, served with breakfast potatoes & toast. This omelet was gently cooked, enough for me to share, included a lot of breakfast potatoes (which I appreciated, we were hungry!) and the shredded duck meat inside was seasoned well but just a tad dry; still very good. Lots of beans and cheese inside made for a filling late breakfast that kept us full for a few hours. The staff were all very nice and helpful, the ambiance is beachy vintage and chill; definitely a spot to come back to. read more

The burger was great! We had a group of almost 20 going to the theater around the corner. 10 special needs kids altogether for a celebration going to see a play. Thought I'd refresh with these jaded eyes 13 freakin' year later. It's great to see that some good things don't change too much. The place is still homey and comfortable with better-than-average flapjacks and Wife's favorite Italian egg scramble getting a redux on the Hoover action. Cassie is a first-rate server, congenial and efficient, and the boss was as friendly as ever, still clearly fully engaged in keeping the place running smoothly and delivering quality breakfast fare. I took my niece two days ago for lunch and the restaurant was four older white men at one table 2 older white man at another table one white man with the Asian woman, and then us two young black women while we're eating an older man that worked there came out and started greeting everyone when it came to us. He barely came close enough to the table to ask us how we were doing it felt like racism everyone else got a warm greeting and asked how their food was. We did not when our waitress cream I asked if that was the owner she said yes very disappointing to fill. Nice local place for brunch! We were seated next to a regular who comes for breakfast every day and it was so charming to hear him chat with the server. Service was leisurely just as Hubby and I would wish to enjoy a special brunch together. I've tried a lot of menu items... but I can't get enough of the prime rib breakfast... the potatoes and steak are seasoned soooo well! I love that for me!... the OJ is really freshly squeezed and tastes amazing! I told her I was ready to order she said she would grab my order, my actual server never came over to say hi or to check on me not once. She dropped off my food which was really good it was a chicken fried steak and eggs. During the time that I was sitting there for my 40 minutes not once did Barbara ask how I was doing. She checked on her other tables inside but not me, I finally finished my food and put all my dishes at the end and then came around and I had to ask for my check she never brought it. I'm honestly blown away with how amazing this place is! Ambiance: 9/10 Slightly outdated but well maintained! I love the decor and the place is clean and makes me feel safe to dine here. Service: 10/10 I love the team work! Everyone here works together to ensure the customers are happy. Food: 9/10 To be fair I have only tried the avocado toast but it was literally the BEST avocado toast I have ever had! I love that I received two pieces of toast which most places only provide one slice of toast. I also added an egg which was slightly overcooked but I was okay with the result. I wanted to order the mega mimosa but the server told me that the mimosas were on a special for $5/ea which I definitely took advantage of. I love when servers help you save money! It lets me know they care more about your experience than earning a better tip from you spending more money. My boyfriend took me here for Valentine's Day breakfast and the food was DELICIOUS! The drinks were also amazing, I got their Valentine's Day mimosa & not only did it taste great, but the presentation of the drink was so cute, had little berries on a heart shaped skewer. Had breakfast at The Crooked Duck this morning. Here are my family's take aways about the overall experience: 1. Mary, our server, was super friendly and attentive. 2. Our food was ok, nothing earth shattering. But then I learned that we were charged an additional $3 for eggs ON A "TRADITIONAL EGG BREAKFAST"!!! After thinking about our bill and the $119 total before tip, I can't help but wonder what other weird charges were lurking on our bill...I went onto their online order platform and added up all we ordered and added 10% tax and have no idea where the other $15 and change came from. What the heck? 3. The owner treats his employees terribly!! He berates them in front of his patrons repeatedly. He clearly has no idea how to treat people. It was absolutely infuriating and, after reading other reviews, this seems to be a habit of his. It's really too bad that an ungrateful, money hungry owner has ruined a breakfast spot for my family and me, but we will not give him another penny (not that you can have breakfast as a family of four for less than $100 after all of his upcharges ... and we didn't have any alcohol) and I truly hope this review is taken to heart by him and he changes how he treats the people he has working so hard to make his restaurant a success. Came here for someone's birthday brunch and the food and ambiance was on par. Is also a dog-friendly establishment and the staff was very polite and welcoming to our furry guest who was treated to eggs and bacon.
