We had to come here after watching a YouTube video review of all the food. There is a lot of history in this beautifully adorned restaurant. The service was friendly. We split too much food starting with the Caesar salad and crab cakes. We proceeded to get the cod, lobster, the porterhouse for 2, the filet mignon and the hash browns. The hash browns and the steak were so fabulously done! It was a well worth expensive treat for our party of four! We definitely didn't need both the porterhouse and the filet mignon. If we have to choose one thing to skip, I would say to skip the lobster. read more

We had been at Delmonico's years ago but had not been back since they reopened until we stopped by during Restaurant Week and had a great meal. We started with the Crab Cake and the Bacon and both were excellent with the Crab Cake perhaps standing out more with the creative potato string crust. For our entrees we had the Steak Frites, Salmon and the Delmonico Ribeye. All were great with the steaks cooked perfectly to our requested temperature. The Delmonico Ribeye was well worth the upgrade charge on the Restaurant Week menu. The Baked Alaska (finished at the table) and the Chocolate Cake provided a very nice finish to the meal. Honest review of Delmonico's: Located at 56 Beaver Street in the financial district Delmonico's was on my list due to its history of being Americas first fine dining restaurant. The interior and exterior architecture is dazzling, the staff were very attentive despite being busy most of the night. I started with the yellowtail crudo, a Japanese-inspired dish featuring thinly sliced raw yellowtail (also called hamachi) fish, dressed with a citrus-based vinaigrette, including elements of a creamy avocado sauce, ponzu, lime juice, and garnished with crispy pearls creating a refreshing and delicate appetizer with a clean, slightly buttery flavor from the fish that melted in my mouth. My main dish was the Delmonico eye a 12oz Ribeye from Brandt family farms out of California cooked medium rare. The steak that came out looked like a sirloin...my waitress wasn't having any of it and sent it back mid bite lol. They came back with a beautiful cut of ribeye cooked medium rare/rare for me and it was properly seasoned and glorious! If you are in the area you definitely need to stop by Delmonico's and take in the history as well as the food. read more

This was one of my favorite Restaurant Week meals of all times! I have participated in Restaurant Week multiple times and I was thoroughly impressed with Delmonico's. The service was exceptional from start to finish even though we were there to participate in Restaurant Week and didn't order anything extra. They were attentive and friendly, the meal was well paced, and we were able to take our time. They checked on us just the right amount of times and were able to answer any questions we asked. The dining room is dark and we sat at a table on the outskirts of the room, which is my preference, as it felt more secluded and it wasn't loud or busy where we were. The Restaurant Week menu is large, with 4 or more options for the appetizer, main, and dessert, and the meal was definitely worth the price. I ordered the main crab cake with potato strings and tarragon dill tartar, the eye of delmonico frites, and the chocolate layer cake. I also got to try the yellowtail crudo with avocado, walnut, crispy pearls, seasoned shoyu, and shiso, and the yuzu cheesecake with black sesame, wild blueberry, and shiso. They started us off with a basket of bread. The bread was soft and the butter spread easily. The crispy potato string shell paired well with the creamy crab cake. It was filling but not heavy. We enjoyed the crunchy aspect of the crispy pearls on the yellowtail crudo, but this appetizer was on the smaller side with only 3 pieces of yellowtail. The steak was a generous portion, well seasoned, and cooked to our liking. The fries were crispy and fresh. Both of the desserts were dense. The chocolate cake was very smooth and creamy with a strong chocolate flavor and I was glad that there was ice cream to pair with it. The yuzu cheesecake was our least favorite item that we had. The cheesecake was dense and we felt like there were too many different flavors that didn't all go together. Overall the service was outstanding, the dining experience was enjoyable, the food was well prepared, and the Restaurant Week price was a great deal! I will definitely be back. read more

I had been to Delmonico's many times over the years and have had consistently good experiences. I took a friend, it was her first time, and unfortunately, it wasn't so pleasant for her. We started off with the Caesar salad - which we shared. It was quite unique, unlike any salad we'd had before. The leaves - as you can see in the accompanying photo - were served separately. The dressing was cradled in the individual leaves - it was delicious. There were whole fresh sardines over a few of the leaves for those true fish lovers! We both ordered the 10 oz. filets, with the Pommes Puree and Sautéed Wild Mushrooms on the side. I ordered my steak medium well - she ordered hers medium. My steak was perfectly cooked with a pink center throughout. It had a crisp, charred exterior but was very moist - juice flowing with every cut. My partner cut her steak, while the exterior was medium, as she cut a few slices, it was evident the steak was undercooked - cooked medium rare. Very disappointing. We sent her steak back and waited and waited and waited - when it was returned, it was very charred outside and still medium rare inside. I was in disbelief-she was very understanding-she just left it on her plate. The 'best' part - they asked if she wanted to take it home. Okay, the mashed potatoes (Pommes Puree) were amazing-really the best....and the mushrooms were very good. We finished with the Baked Alaska - which always lives up to its reputation as an incredible dessert! Their is not much that I can add to what has already been said about this storied New York classic fine dining restaurant. The appearance is outstanding. Service is beyond excellent, and the food was wonderful. We had raw west coast oysters that were very clean and fresh, Caesar salad that was delicious, fillet mignon that was well-seasoned and a perfect medium, lobster newberg with it's wonderful cognac sauce, creamy mashed potatoes and nicely charred in season delicious asparagus. Of course, for dessert, we had the baked Alaska...a flaming, sweet banana gelato wrapped with walnut cake, apricot jam and a meringue topping...just a little bit of heaven! We started with the Maine Crab Cake (see video) which was an explosion of great flavor. I ordered the Filet Mignon and my friend ordered the Signature Delmonico. Our sides were the Pomme Puree and Grilled Asparagus. Everything was cooked to perfection. The hollandaise foam on the asparagus was nothing like I've ever experienced before. We finished our meal with the Baked Alaska to which our server gave us the historic story behind the dish. (I recommend reading the full history of Delmonico's on their website). We came here a couple days before Christmas and had a fantastic dinner. We were able to sit at the bar before the dining room opened at 5pm which was nice. I ordered the filet and my husband had the ribeye and we decided to share. Both were cooked to a perfect med-rare. The blue cheese and peppercorn sauces were delicious. Can't pinpoint what it was, we think it was the undercooked fish, but neither of us have been feeling great since our meal there on Sunday. The tab was 50$ - including taxes and tip - for 2 cocktails. * Atmosphere- elegant yet relaxed. * Staff - friendly although I felt overlooked / slightly ignored. * Cocktails - bar menu offers nonalcoholic cocktails (only 2 choices but nice it's offered). Made a special effort to go down to Delmonico's. The dining room was closed for a private party, the bar had seating and while I would have preferred a table we sat at the actual bar. I ordered the 10 oz eye of delmonico which came with fries and black truffle aioli and my daughter had the power lunch with 3 courses. She had the wedge salad minus the prosciutto (vegetarian) and blue cheese. The she had the mushroom risotto which was very good. We concluded with the baked Alaska which came with a $10 unchanged. Delmonico's claims to be the oldest fine dining restaurant in the U.S. They also lay claim to inventing Delmonico steaks, Eggs Benedict, Lobster Newberg, Chicken Ala Keene, and Baked Alaska. That's quite a legacy. The steak was very good, but not in the pantheon of the very best steaks. The fries were also good as was the aioli. The wedge salad was a bit ordinary, but the risotto was probably the best thing we had, or tasted. The Baked Alaska was fine too. We had great service from the bartender. We went to Delmonico's for a birthday dinner on Saturday night. The restaurant was extremely busy and reservations were required weeks in advance. It was great experience overall. Hand's down some of the best steak we ever had and the service was unlike any other restaurant. Our waiters were very tentative and constantly by our side when needed at the dinner table. The ambience was relatively loud with a full house but was expected. We ordered most of the sides but the creamed spinach and french fries were the table's favorite. All the steaks cooked to perfection, everyone asked for medium rare which had a pink center and a perfect crust on the steak. We finished off the night with famous Baked Alaska. In 1837 the Delmonico brothers opened a shop selling pastries, coffee, chocolates, liquor and cigars. It was successful, and soon afterward they purportedly opened the first fine dining restaurant in the country. And almost two hundred years later, Delmonico's iconic triangular New York restaurant remains. It's been a long multidecade hiatus since I last visited, but I still remember the amazing steak and rich, delicious Delmonico potatoes I enjoyed so many years ago. In somewhat of a list minute decision, we tried to make a reservation online, but there were none to be had. I opted to go on the waiting list, and a day later received an email with confirmation. As we passed through the historic portico, we were pleased to see the stately restaurant looking in beautiful condition. On this visit we ordered: * Lobster Newberg: Cognac, Tarragon, Lobster Coral. $59 * Eye of Delmonico Steak: 12oz, Brandt Family Farms, CA. $68 * Grilled Asparagus: Garlic Oil. $17 * Pommes Puree: $15 Wait a minute, where are the Delmonico potatoes?! Our waiter informed us they don't serve those anymore, have updated the menu to Pommes Puree. Okay, I was a tad disappointed but will await the Pommes Puree before rendering a verdict. Sauces, like the sides, were also alacarte. There were three options: * Sichuan Peppercorn Sauce $6 * Creamy Blue Cheese Sauce $6 * Shallot Beef Jus $6 I was surprised there was no bearnaise sauce offered, which I might have ordered, but I wasn't in the mood for the three offered. We also ordered two glasses of wine (a Chianti and a Cabernet Sauvignon). The service was outstanding, as one might expect at a fine dining establishment like Delmonico's and at the hefty price point for this dinner. Water, warm bread and wine quickly appeared at our table. So far, so good. The dining room was quiet as our reservation was early. I ordered my steak medium rare, and it arrived just as ordered, perfectly executed, hot, and absolutely delicious. The Pommes Puree was fantastic, creamy, buttery and delicious. What was the potato to butter ratio? My advice - don't ask! The asparagus was good, on the thinner side, and standard fare. My co-diner was less impressed with the Lobster Newberg, commenting that she was looking for a more traditional and flavorful sauce, and was somewhat disappointed with their current iteration. She described it as having muted flavor. We shared a Coconut Cream Pie (Passion Fruit Ice Cream $17) for dessert. It was tasty, but served too chilled, some of the filling was on the precipice of frozen. The total price for this dinner was $289 without appetizers or coffee and with just one dessert. It's clearly on the pricier side of restaurants, even for Manhattan. Expectations tend to correlate with the price tag. Overall, we enjoyed our fine dining experience at Delmonico's and would be happy to return. Dress code is elegant casual (no baseball caps, jeans, sweat suits, t-shirts, etc.). Enjoyed a ridiculously expensive Thanksgiving dinner at Delmonico's. Wanted the opportunity to visit such a classic NYC institution. Appreciated that they had a good selection of local draft beers. Enjoyed a Five Boroughs Festbier. We started with the optional dressed oysters, 6 oysters, nicely prepared, attractively presented, and tasty. The wedge salad was generous, the prosciutto chips in particular were fabulous, though I didn't particularly care for the vinaigrette dressing. Three thick slices of what appeared to be a boneless turkey breast roast. A little dry, though the accompanying gravy and cranberry sauce helped. Sides for the table. Best was the pommes puree, it went fast. Not so much on the stuffing. The brussels got some complements. Had to try the Delmonico's original baked Alaska. It was fine, though way too much for one person after a big dinner. Good service throughout. Don't particularly have any desire to return for a regular service, and there are certainly many other choices for Thanksgiving in the city that won't take such a big bite out of your wallet. read more

We were in New York with friends and this was the birthday boys choice for the big day. We were able to score some late night reservations and spent the week dreaming of steak. The restaurant has been recently revamped and it was a beautiful place to celebrate with our good friends. We started with cesar salads, caramelized bacon and a crab cake, all were great choices. I think the cesar and the crab cake were the winners here. The cesar was nicely dressed and topped with crumbled parmesan. The crab cake was loaded with fresh crab meat and the sauce made this crab pop. Everyone had steaks....the traditional Delmonico, Filet, eye of Delmonico and we tried the Waguy special. While I do wish that they made bearnaise sauce here, I was very happy with my Delmonico cut. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare, had a nice almost char crust, and was just flavorful all around. We also had a variety of sides, creamed spinach, asparagus with hollandaise and sauteed mushrooms. My favorite would be the creamed spinach, vibrantly green and perfectly creamy. Desserts were delicious as well! The Baked Alaksa with its banana ice cream was soooooo good. Our friends each ordered the chocolate mouse and raved about how tasty it was. Our waiter seemed entirely disinterested in our experience, failing to explain the menu, adequately answer questions, or stop by and check on us. Unfortunately this is a through line that I've experienced at several old school steakhouses in NYC, who seem obligated to drag along subtle discrimination as part of their heritage, assuming that certain people are dining on a budget. We weren't. Thankfully, the food was not as disappointing as the service. The filet mignon was well cooked and I adored the Wild Mushroom Risotto. I've been meaning to come here for some time now, but ever since they closed I haven't had the chance to. Since they finally reopened at the end of last year, I felt like it was my time to finally hit up this New York institution. My sister and I started with the Yellowtail Crudo and the Crab Cake and very much enjoyed both. The Yellowtail was accompanied with bits of crispy rice and ginger which added texture and freshness to the plate and the crab cake had both presentation and texture added on by the potato string cage. For mains we got the Delmonico's Cut of steak and Mushroom Risotto. That cut of steak, as well as the color and preparation were spot on, super delicious with that signature char. The mushroom risotto was also great (maybe a little bit liquidy) but it was creamy, rich, and cheesey, and the white mushrooms on top were pickled so they contrasted the rest of the dish really well. The side of creamed spinach we got was also divine. For dessert, my sister and I both got Baked Alaska and while this is definitely not the standard flavor combination today, it is the original so we went for it anyways. I like the banana gelato and the walnut cake, thought the apricot jam incorporation isn't really too my taste. Just as well, it was still nice to try it! The service throughout the meal was pretty spot on as well as the food and I'm glad that we got to finally try this historic spot. I will likely return. read more

I prefer to taste the quality of the produce eg. was the lettuce sweet? Was the meat of good quality? Etc. the chef did try to present the food in creative ways: the salad was presented in an array of single individual leaves in a pattern on the plate which was nice, instead of all mixed up in a clump with cheese and little fishes. However, by spreading the leaves out in a single layer, more salty cheese and fishes made the salad very salty and I could not taste the sweetness of the lettuce. The quality of their signature Delmonico steak was excellent. I had to reject the steak because it was too overwhelmingly salty to my taste. When the waiter saw that I was not eating the steak after the first bite, he offered to replace the steak, which was done very graciously. The dessert was spectacular, all dramatic and lit up. My husband who loves salt said it the meal was ok. read more

I sat at the bar but was offered a table. Ate: Gratis bread Marinated Mushrooms Grilled broccoli rabe Total $31 before tip The bread itself was underwhelming with a nice compound butter. They were out of the tuna sliders and veggies were really good served in mini cast iron pots really nice touch but portions very tiny. Hopefully Delmonico's responds to this. I was told this was the first restaurant to have printed menus. Back in the day, I guess the menu was presented by your server. Interesting. I've eaten at Delmonico several times. Recently, we stopped in and had a drink at the bar. This is one of the oldest institutions in New York City. It is a must visit even if it's just for a drink. My son & I were excited to celebrate our birthdays a couple months early (he will be at school in March) so my wife & I thought we'd celebrate in style as it was my 60th & his 20th! We thought Delmonico's would be a great place to celebrate as I'd heard about their recent renovation & their history. They DID NOT disappoint! We decided to share everything and ordered the fresh oysters with passion mignonette & champagne geleé, a Caesar salad, the mushroom risotto accented with truffle, hash browns with sour cream & pickled red onions and a mid rare 18 ounce aged ribeye with a Szechuan peppercorn sauce. The fresh oysters were tasty but I found the passion mignonette a bit busy & the geleé a terrific addition. The risotto was just excellent as was the ribeye & hash browns. We enjoyed the steak so much we ordered a mid rare filet mignon too!! Delicious. We ordered a coconut custard pie to share for dessert that was also excellent. The service on all counts was on point, swift, efficient & personable. The surroundings were very pleasing but didn't really express the VERY long history of the restaurant (outside of a portrait of the original Italian chef). I had a men night out and we decided to dine at the historic Delmonicos on Beaver Street that operated since 1837. An old school vibe as we entered the side entrance and sat at the bar for drinks. The bar tender's tequila recommendation was on point and he made the drinks stronger than Alnord Schwarzenegger when he played in Commando. My team was escorted to the main dining area as some were dressed in polo shirts, some wore a blazer and few had on a suit. The staff from the bar to the dining area was polite and professional. We ask to speak to the wine specialist who is also known as the Sommelier who recommended a nice cabernet sauvignon that paired really well with our dinner. For appetizer we ordered the KUMAMOTO OYSTERS, CARAMELIZED BACON with maple syrup, MAINE CRAB CAKE covered in fresh potato strings and this was a nice presentation. We ordered three different cuts, DRY AGED BONE IN, SIGNATURE DELMONICO RIBEYE PORTERHOUSE FOR TWO all cooked at medium accompanied by all three sauces Sichuan Peppercorn, Creamy Blue Cheese, Shallot Beef Jus. Sides were the creamed spinach which lack traditional flavor, asparagus was cooked perfectly with a slight Crunch with every bite, the hand cut French fries was the star when it came to the sides. For dessert we ordered the DELMONICO'S ORIGINAL BAKED ALASKA, the server lit the dessert on fire once he placed it on the table, great presentation and experience. My comards also order the espresso with ice cream. After we completed our dessert and espresso the manager offered is a complimentary glass of champagne. Great food, presentation and staff. Enjoyed a semi traditional Thanksgiving dinner at Delmonico's this year. Happy to see them reopened, we thought Thanksgiving was a great opportunity to return to Delmonico's, and based on how packed it was, we weren't alone. The dinner started with a glass of Caymus and a very interesting lump crab cake baked in a pastry crust (see pic). Dinner was very traditional and my favorite part was the creamy mashed potatoes. The standard offerings was all white turkey breast, but our server went back in the kitchen to get my wife a few cuts of dark meat We love Delmonico's for their traditional steaks, but what a great opportunity to have Thanksgiving there.
