I've passed by Gai Kitchen and its food court so many times and decided it was time to go. I dont hear much about it on social media but for what you pay for - you have to try it out. It is some top quality Hainan style chicken. I would be quite happy to receive this at a hawker stall in Singapore. Good thing this is a bit more local. I've been wanting to try Gai Kitchen and have finally made it here as they've moved to their own store on Mott St Btwn Bayard/Pell St. Stepping foot into the store, my sister and I immediately smelled something good coming right from the kitchen. It's very spacious with several tables and chairs set up in the front and you can order at the counter. The service was great and friendly, and one of the customers even came up before she left to compliment how good the food was as we were ordering. The main options are Steamed Hainanese Chicken and Thai Style Roasted Chicken, which are $5.99 small and $8.99 large and comes with choice of rice. We wanted to try both so got the combo for mixed steamed and roasted for $10. The spring rolls were ok but the chive pancake was good! We got takeout and the chive pancake smelled so good that we couldn't wait until we got home to eat it. We stopped in the middle of the streets and had to try it immediately! So glad we did! The outside was nice and crispy and the inside was flavorful and chewy! The food got a bit cold when we got back so will have to try the chicken again to get its best taste. We wanted to try the pink milk as well. This was a little too sweet and overwhelming so I wish it was about 30-50% less sweet. Overall, it was incredibly cheap (one bubble tea at Kung fu tea or a similar chain usually costs $6.50+) so this was nice. Service was a little slow to order but the teas came out quickly. As for the taste, the ginger rice was beautifully cooked. Very flavorful. However, the hainanese chicken was a bit on the dry side. The sauce it came with was its saving grace. It comes with a small thing of soup. Tasty but overly peppery, in my opinion. Curry puffs were very small. One order of that comes with two pieces only. The steamed chicken was so juicy and flavorful and the roasted chicken was so delicious. I did prefer the steamed chicken more. I've never had steamed chicken so juicy and tender. For my drink I ordered a Thai ice tea, it was very good, I know sometime we take drinks for granted but trust me there is such a thing as a bad drink. This place was legit, it had nice robust thai tea flavor. After we ate this meal we ordered 2 more to go.
