This is definitely the best fast food sea food chain around and It is one of my favorite places to eat. The fish and chips are very very good and the clam chowder is the best. The service at this location is awesome, the staff is friendly and a lot of the times they will bring your food right out to your table and ask if there is anything else you would like. The fish and chips here are delicious but I like the chowder the most. It's really good. The atmosphere is pretty nice -- the decorations on the wall, photos, posters, etc., adds to the experience. The service is excellent as well. The folks there brought the food to our table, asked how we're doing, etc. They gave us an extra piece of fish because they told us the fish pieces are a bit small today. Wow! Can't get better than that. I would definitely recommend this place if you like seafood. read more

Wow!!! Hadn't eaten at Ivars in years, partly because we live in southern CA but do spend quite a lot of time in Bellevue, and so thought it was high time we did!! Went to Crossroads Ivars and we're thrilled with the awesomeness of the food! I had a 3 piece fish and chips and it was cooked to perfection! Lightly battered with delicious moist cod!! Chips were great too! Not greasy at all! My wife had oysters and chips and those were amazing! We shared a bowl of clam chowder which was great, albeit too much with what we had ordered so too the rest home to enjoy later!! Absolutely delighted with Ivars! We'll be back soon!! read more

Update: The General Manager just phoned me and he didn't understand what had happened. In my review I didn't note that I had called the the previous Friday and didn't make that clear. Entirely my fault. Apparently he wasn't there that day and the person I spoke to neglected to make a note of our conversation. He has corrected the error. I'm very thankful for that since we love their food. And it turns out that they would offer grilled, if they had enough space. It's a smaller establishment. Excellent fish and chips with a side of clam chowder awesomeness!

I visited Ivar's recently when I had a craving for chowder, and Ivar's does not disappoint. The chowder was pretty good - obviously not gourmet, but for fast food it was definitely above average. The environment was also to my taste, as I love a strong and vibrant front, accompanied by some really yummy smells. I also got the french fries, and those rocked the boat, especially with the condiment selection that Ivar's offers. There are, if I recall correctly, 5 condiments you can select for your meal. I chose tartar sauce to pair with my french fries, and they were very good together. The service was quick and easy, and they brought out the food to the table, which was very nice and convenient. Other than the food, the service was really great. The cashiers were nice and friendly and gave me helpful suggestions when I asked them what I should get. There was also calorie information posted near the food which was really convenient, and a great tool for someone looking to maintain their figure. For the price, this restaurant definitely exceeds my expectations. When I go into Ivar's, I always know that I am getting a great deal for a great meal. Keep in mind though, Ivar's IS fast food. It's obviously not going to be as good as a gourmet 1-hour wait restaurant. However, it's definitely on the high end of fast food. Wow. My 1st time eating here and the halibut was perfection. but even more delicious than the food was the customer service. SSSSooooooo friendly!!! The staff here is really friendly and they have one of those awesome drink machines where you can pick virtually any soft drink under the sun. Overall service is pretty good, although sometimes the staff is a little *too* laid back about getting the food done and out. The location is great, and there is a lot of seating indoors and out. The decor is fun and it's generally pretty clean. The food is fine. It's a little pricey given the quality of the food, but it's fairly tasty. The fried fish is good, but the French fries leave a lot to be desired. I do love the clam chowder bread bowl! Several of my family members love this place. read more

The only reason I gave them one star, was because I couldn't give them no stars. My boyfriend and I went to this Ivars expecting to be in and out with our takeout order. Turns out, we ended up waiting 30 minutes!!! The lines got super backed up, with 1 kid on the register, taking orders, and another kid bussing the food. The boy that was working on the register kept checking his phone, and had his back turned away from the customers. At one point, he left the front of the house to get more calm chowder, and he took several minutes before coming back. The other kid who was bussing took forever to put together the orders, and she wasn't pacing herself fast enough to keep up with the rush. It was obvious people were getting annoyed and tired of waiting. By the time they called our name, it was just to tell us they were waiting for our corn bread. We waited for 15 more minutes, until my bf went up to ask how much longer on the cornbread, and then the girl reacted like she forgot and threw it in our takeout bag. I was so hungry, I couldn't wait to get home to eat so when I took a bite of the cornbread I noticed it was cold!! Why the hell were we waiting for the cornbread for? We were under the impression they were baking it fresh. On top of that, I heard the phone ring twice, and no one answered either times. They need to get it together there. My favorite fish-and-chips! Well, I ask to substitute Caesar salad for the chips, and appreciate that this is offered at no additional cost! The cod is always fresh, in a thin cornmeal (I think?) batter, the service has always been cordial and helpful. The chance to serve my own tartar sauce, instead of asking for prepared packets, is a huge plus! Oh - and the beverage machine is just fun, and offers every imaginable selection of drinks, including de-caf sodas. I stop there once a week en route from Bellevue to Redmond and look forward to every visit! read more

Gross!! To start the lady that took my cash did not wash her hands before grabbing the carton my sandwich was wrapped in or the bag it was put in or before grabbing the napkins. She also grabbed the receipt with the same dirty hands and put it on top of the napkins. Then she diss appeared in the back and another guy came out, he got the dirty trays he held them over the floor and wiped them with his bare hand and then placed the on top of the clean stack, then he riffled through the peoples food before me un- and re packaging their food, he never once washed his hands either after "dusting" the dirty trays. The he turned to my already dirty napkins receipt and the my food with his filthy hands . Gross!! When I got home the salmon Blt I ordered was cold and the bread was soggy with grease, where did that much grease come from, there was only 1 small piece of bacon? I'm scared to think, will defiantly never go back to any of this chains restaurants ever again, thought best of eating it and threw it out. read more

I always have to have my Ivar's "fix" when I visit the area. Been doing Ivar's since the early 70's when I used to live in WA. Can't find anything like it where I live in AZ. Love the clam chowder, the true cod, and the salmon. Today I tried the Yukon River salmon plate. It came with wild rice, cole slaw, a small corn muffin with butter. Can't beat it for $10.95! Ivar would have been disappointed with this place. Overcooked and dry cod and fries, salmon chowder looked and tasted like it's been on the warmer too long. Did cod go on a diet because each piece is now 70% smaller. After one bite, I started wishing I went to McDonald's for a double fish patty sandwich! The seafood here is fresh, I'll give them that, but otherwise skip Ivar's. Everything is super bland, like eating in the Midwest not the west coast. If you coat it in sauce or tabasco, you start to get a little something, if the coating doesn't just soak it all up. When I came in today I noticed the three girls working were very friendly and professional. They were complimenting customers and had a good sense of humor. The food is always great. The cod is unbeatable. My only complaint is that the scallops get smaller and smaller every time I have them. And this is too bad because they are so delicious. I have driven by and seen this place a lot since it is across from Crossroads mall. I have never gone in so today I decided to go in and get lunch as I was out and wanted to go somewhere different. The last time I came to Ivars was 15 years ago so I wanted to try it again. I was greeted right when I walked in and got the seafood combo which has a piece of cod, clam strips, and prawns. I also got a cup of clam chowder. My food came out super fast and was hot and fresh. They give you a huge portion of seafood and fries. It was really good for fast food. I think my favorite thing were the clam strips followed by the prawns. I would ask for the cod to be Cajun style next time so it would have more flavor but dipping it in vinegar and tartar gave it flavor. The fries were crispy and hot and some of the best fries you can get at a fast food place. I was not too crazy about the chowder, I wouldn't get it again. It doesn't compare to Pike Place Chowder, not that I was expecting it to. It was almost 4 bucks for a small cup and definitely not worth it. I love that they bring you your food and have free self serve tartar sauce and you don't have to pay for it like most places. They had a sweet tartar and a regular. They also had both garlic and malt vinegar which go great with the fish. My whole meal was 14 bucks which is a little more than I would want to pay for lunch, especially at a fast food place. This didn't even come with a drink, I think they should include a drink with the combos like most fast food places. They have a cool freestyle Coke machine where you can get hundreds of different drinks. I'm glad I tried this place and would go back and just get the seafood combo and no chowder next time I'm in crossroads and want to get food, as I would take this place over anything in the food court there. read more

So I used to be a weekly customer of Ivar's for years. However, they decided to nearly double their prices, from just 3 to 4 yrs now. No you don't see it in the menu. Because they simply dropped all the combo meal options and charge for everything separately. Just 3 or so years ago, you could get the 3 piece meal, small cup of chowder and a drink for under 8 bucks. Now, all totaled, it rings to $14.75 in King County, WA ($13.18 without tax). For nearly 15 bucks, you get 3 small pieces of fish in a 5" x 3" little paper tray on top of a handful of fries. Oh, and 3-4oz of chowder + drink cup. Now, while I admit Ivar's is better quality and tasting food (if delivered in larger quantity at better price), as a simple comparison . . . you can go to a casual sit down restaurant like Red Robbin and get 3 times the fish, unlimited fries and a drink for the same price with undeniable better atmosphere! Ivar's - love the food, but who's willing to spend $15 for half the food most other restaurants serve as standard lunch fare? I probably spent $500 a year at Ivar's, before they jacked their prices thru the roof. Now they get zero! read more
