#13 The Original Italian (4 stars)
    Phi N.

I always like me some jersey Mike's. The sandwiches were made correct & on point here but the service isn't the best. The staff were some kids though, so maybe don't have such high expectations for their service, lol. I ordered the big kahuna and original italian. Both were fantastic. I definitely recommend adding lots of the hoagie spread to both.

The sandwiches here are a true American classic. The service, quality and atmosphere is excellent. There's very little wait time. Ordering ahead is recommended during lunch time.

Felt like having a philly cheesesteak and my usual places don't have them on the menu and a sandwich shop I used to frequent closed long ago, so I gave Jersey Mike's a shot. Small shop and still busy even though it was after 1pm. Guy that took my order was most likely new because he kept glancing at the menu (tip: you might want to have a laminated "quick assembly" guide behind the counter). Looks like they cater to pick up/take out orders because they only have four or five tables. Someone didn't pick up their brownie, so an attendant gave it to me. Score! Funny bit was one of the attendants was eating something from either Wendy's or Burger King, in their own dining area. Also parking is absolutely awful.

They had clear markers on the floor and they put tables in front of the sandwich prep counter, to make sure we were social distancing. The staff was all wearing mask n gloves. They have so many options it was hard to pick so we asked our server Manny. He was so knowledgeable about the sandwiches n gave us all the options n helped us pick out 2 great sandwiches. Great choices Manny. Such a kind human being. Great customer service. We got: #26, Bacon, ranch, chicken, cheese steak: with lettuce, tomato, onions, cucumber and all the oils n sauces. Delicious!!! The sandwich was warm n the parmesan crusted bread was crispy on the outside n soft on the inside. We also added jalepenos. Yum!! #13, The original italian: loaded with all the good cold cuts salami, pepperoni, ham, proscuittini cappacuolo n provolone cheese. We added all the veggies like we did with the first. A great sandwich. Will definitely order this again but will add mayo n mustard. We also got a free chocolate chip cookie for checking in on yelp. It was soft n loaded with chocolate chips. Give me more, give me more. The gentle that rang us up n the young lady that was making our #26 were all super nice. They have CREAM SODA in their soda fountain. I WILL BE BACK!!!

Located off Lakewood Bl in Long Beach by the Long Beach Exchange. Fairly new location. Inside is small a few tables and when the crowds come it can get packed inside. Overall a nice location and staff was pretty friendly and working hard.

This is one of the only Italian restaurants in DTLB. Broadway Pizza and Buono's are pizza places…read morethat are more "Italian restaurant" than you think, but this place is really the only true Italian Restaurant in DTLB. I give it 1 star for the nice owners and family. I give it 1 star for sitting outside on a nice day and enjoying the outside vibe. I give it 1 star for average food. The menu however, has major issues. The bread they use for the garlic bread, the pesto bread, and the pastrami sandwich doesn't hold up. The white part of the bread gets mushy and has a bad texture. That's the case for all hot sandwiches and garlic breads. I recently ordered the chicken parm, and the chicken was cut into small pieces and was burnt. I like my meat cut up in rice dishes such as paella and jambalaya, but cut up chicken parm seems low class and it wasn't great. I also recently ordered the Italian sub. It's a shame you have to pay extra for cheese. IMO, an Italian sub should have both Provolone and Mozzarella cheese. Their sandwich comes with no cheese and is an extra charge. Bummer. Also, they have a variety of Italian-style sandwiches, but none of them have the classic salami, mortadella, and capicola combination which is the authentic combination from my experience. To top it off, the Italian Sub doesn't have red onion or black olives. Meh. There are more menu issues. In the end, there's nothing I find above average. I don't discourage you from going if you're in the mood for a nice Italian meal on the sidewalk outside in nice weather, but there is literally nothing I've found on their large menu that is above average. The menu is flawed in too many ways. At least the family owners seem to be very nice and that goes a long way in deciding who to give my hard earned money to.

My entire food journey started in a Columbia, Maryland food court at The Mall and a grilled Reuben…read moreat the age of 13. Since then the grilled Reuben has been my measuring stick for every restaurant that serves it. It's a must! It shows the attention to detail. It's not a sandwich you can rush. It requires its own time to caramelize and set the flavors up properly. Just like a house made soup, a Grilled Reuben can tell you a lot. And, it just happens to be my favorite sandwich of all time! So. High marks on the store itself. It has a very open air feel, lots of natural lighting, high ceilings and then a hidden court yard behind the shop. It's very clean with lots of colors and art. The music is perfect for the space. The menu is varied and they have both alcoholic drinks and non alcoholic drinks. It's a deli. And they absolutely fill the roll perfectly. And as anyone will tell you, who frequents any deli in the country. What matters is the food. Period. All the niceties mean nothing if the food distant stand up. So... how did they do? Meh. I've had worse. Much worse. I've also had much better. And understand his is my personal opinion. I'm well aware that my comments will not reflect the opinion of everyone. But, the corned beef. They do not cook it in house. It didn't appear to be a brisket although with it being shaved as thinly as it is I don't know if that would help. Brisket corned beer works best when it's nice thick beautiful cuts that break apart and melt in your mouth. But. As you can see in the picture, they don't grill the corned beef but they do pile it pretty darn high. Which is nice. The sauerkraut wasn't grilled. The rye wasn't roasted long enough so the Swiss didn't properly melt and set. Not enough Thousand Island dressing. The rye has the perfect texture and it helps to very nicely. An excellent Jewish rye! The pesto pasta salad was very nice. And it looked as if the other sides were made with an equal amount of attention and love. So high marks there. This is one of those tough reviews because the reality is the atmosphere, the staff and the location are all excellent. The sandwich needs some work. Remember that the Grilled Reuben is the ONLY TRUE American Sandwich. It was created from scratch for the 1942 World's Fair in New York City. It's an original! Treat it with the respect it deserves. And this three star sandwich... of all sandwiches is a hard pass. Sorry. But, if you would ever like to have me come into your restaurant and show you how to serve the best Reuben of your life... just invite me back. I'd love to show you how to make some simple tweaks and turn a meh into a don't miss!
