Wowie zowie, this was a good one in our Friday Night Pizza series. By far the best Detroit style we've had, and def on the short list of top overall. The dough is somehow dense but fluffy at the same time with a greasy, sour tang, the sauce is sweet with a pronounced tomato flavor, and the cheese is thick n salty. So much flavor, so much to savor. We usually get a salad to accompany our pizza party, but since they didn't have any, I was not going to leave without this cake I've been hearing so much about. Holy moly, I've never had a cake where I've loved every single layer as much as this one. The fork fell through the vanilla bean chiffon, you could taste the raspberries in the jam, the proportion of marscapone was perfection, and since when do I enjoy almond marzipan? This is when. My boyfriend and I were searching for a place where we can sit down and enjoy some delectable pizza slices. This place happens to be in Echo Park, it was my first time in this area. It's a very hipster style area, which we loved. We ordered the meatballs which serve 5 meatballs and garlic bread and 5 slices of pizza. We had the pepperoni, Sicilian corner, polish riviera (potato pizza), Margherita, and plain with ricotta cheese on top. Every single slice was so different in its own way. The plain with ricotta cheese was my favorite. The Sicilian corner was very unusual, it has pineapple and I am not a fan of pineapple in my pizza so I asked the waitress if we could remove it but she advised that the pineapple is actually baked into the dough which I found extremely interesting. We just had to try it! It had spicy and sweet flavors that completely balance each other out in a good way. We finally finished our lunch with the princess cake which was absolutely delicious. It has lots of mascarpone which is one of my favorite creams and vanilla flavored. I would love to come back and try some more slices soon! Definitely enjoyed it very much. Third time here to give it another chance. As someone else mentioned after the fact that "it's not worth the food blogger hype and hassle. A couple people who waited outside for a while seemed disappointed after they opened their boxes as I heard "damn $40 for this?" His friend had the same reaction to his whole pizza order. Another person outside as a first timer got their food as I overheard: "it's pretty mid". I want to like it on my third try but it still hasn't lived up to the other un hyped pizzas around town that are less expensive and you get way more food and unique flavor profiles, toppings on gourmet levels. (Some of which are down the street) Four small slices for about $30 with tip. Was dry, cheese was stiff, dough was burnt to a crisp and was way too crunchy like stale toast. Bring back the glory days of when your pizzas were wildly amazing when you were selling them out of your house during 2020...those pizzas were delicious!!!!! The dough was crispy on the bottom but soft and cloudy every where else. The red top was my favorite and the pepperoni was a close second. Do yourself a favor and order at least two slices. While 1 was perfect, our hearts and bellies wanted more after the first bite. Also, the princess cake is divine! I've been stalking Quarter Sheets on Instagram for a long time but always missed their pop-up times so I was so happy when they finally opened their brick and mortar location! This is everything I want my Detroit style pizza to be. From the crispy bottom (some soggy because it was loaded with oil) to the quality ingredients, I was in love. My favorite was the Pepperoni -- simple, crispy edges and most importantly, crispy pepperoni edges with pools of oil in the center. The Sicilian was chockful of veggies and contrasted well with the sausage was a hefty flavor. Jewel City was interesting due to the contrast of ricotta, honey and sambal kick. The heat really creeps up on you from nowhere! The Princess Cake was very well done, even if I am not usually a fan of marzipan. It's topped with minimal sauce, minimal cheese, and minimal basil. It was tasty, but it was not worth the price. The desserts are made by Hannah Ziskin. We tried one of her cake slices and a chocolate chip cookie. Both were delicious, but the slice of cake was not worth $16, nor was the $5 cookie. We only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. Inside, there is a disco ball by the host, and indie music playing by the kitchen window. There's vintage lighting and flea market art on the walls. The restaurant itself has about a dozen tables too so it's relatively small. The menu is small as well, mostly consisting of pizza and deserts. They do have beer and wine as well. We got a slice each of the Sicilian Corner and the Red Top. First off the pizza was amazing. The crust is the star; chewy, fluffy and hearty. I would not say it is Detroit style, but somewhere in between that and a pan pizza crust. The toppings are nothing to scoff at either, as we especially enjoyed the pizza sauce and the chili oil the brought out to top and dunk our pizza in. The show stopper for me was the Slab Cake. It was rich and sweet, and balanced by the tartness of the lemon. I would return just for this cake, and would buy a full sheet if it were available! We also had the princess cake and although it was good, I felt that the Slab Cake was more balanced and exciting. Would HIGHLY recommend this spot for any pizza and cake aficionados. read more

Fell in love after my first bite (while still parked in front) and often times found myself ordering 3-4 pies and slabs each week. Was excited to hear that the dynamic duo would be opening up a brick and mortar location in Echo Park. Missed their opening week but secured a time slot the following week. The crusts are thick, with crisp, cheesy edges, topped with flavorful sauces and a variety of high quality ingredients. They also serve wine, and some seriously outstanding desserts. Located in prime Echo Park, they are wildly popular, so expect a wait. I arrived 45 minutes before opening on a Saturday, and was the first person in line. By the time they opened, there were over 50 people in line. The majority of their business seems to be takeout, but they do have a small amount of table seating inside if you'd like to dine in. The staff were lovely, and even gave me a glass of water while I waited. My favorite slice was the Tomato Pie: fresh sauce and basil that were bursting with flavor, really good olive oil, and decadent ricotta, which you can (and absolutely should) add for $1 extra. A close second was the Vodka Pesto, which can be made vegetarian by omitting the sausage. The creamy vodka sauce was accentuated by salty pistachio pesto and pecorino cheese. The Red Top was fresh, simple, and satisfying. Whatever you do, do NOT skip dessert. Their signature Princess Cake was incredible. This Swedish classic is layers of fluffy sponge cake, whipped cream, and raspberry jam, covered with marzipan. I regret not getting one of every dessert on the menu. Here for the Sicilian Corners (7)! Well, technically corner because you only get one piece, but it's sizable. I would say that if you're eating with a buddy, get one Sicilian Corners and then maybe one other slice to top you off. This slice of ground sausage bits is really good. It's a signature must-get that I feel sets them a part. The pepperoni (5.50) slice is great! But Prince Street does it a bit better. The Polish Riviera (8.50) used to be 6.50. Maybe the cost of potatoes went up since February. I remember this dish being zesty, but too potatoe-y for me. All three pizzas had amazing crispy crusts balanced with a springy airy dough. My partner loved the Prince Cake (10) slice, but I thought it was like any other cake out there. The inside is pretty cozy. It's impressive how many seats they fit in there. It's a good use of space that reminded me of New York where you're elbow to elbow with others, but that's not a big deal because it's still comfortable. There's a partition that separates the front from the dining space that works well. There's also a counter space where you can peak into the kitchen. If you're waiting for a to-go order, a quick walk towards downtown will take you Short Stop where you can grab a happy hour drink for 10. Or you can just chill with the other people waiting in front of Quarter Sheets. It's easy to make conversation because everyone is excited to eat and the wait isn't too bad. read more

I thought I knew what Detroit-style pizza was, but I didn't, so I was somewhat surprised when what showed up in my box was a thick focaccia-like base with the toppings kind of sitting on top like flatbread. It was a little more bread than I was bargaining for. But focaccia IS my favorite type of bread, being as oil-laced as it is, so I wasn't mad. I ordered the pizza with vodka sauce, little heaps of pistachio pesto, basil leaves, and crumbles of Italian sausage. It was tasty and well-balanced, and I appreciated the rigid walls of crust that looked like bread but were actually solid caramelized cheese that shaped to the walls of the pan. Their system is kind of annoying, it's always packed, and even if you pre-order (same-day only and for a specific time slot) you still have to wait in line with everyone who just walked up. Also, $42 is too much money for what is essentially mostly a giant loaf of admittedly very good bread. But for what it is meant to be, I'm not sure they could execute it any more perfectly, so I have to give it its due. read more
