Today I tried Sandough, which is a pizza dough sandwich place in the same location as Station 43 on Melrose. And what, you may ask, is a pizza dough sandwich? It's like if someone made a small but slight softer, slightly more doughy pizza that was the consistency of the outer rim of a good pizza, and then folded it over and put stuff in it like they were filling a taco. Except in my case, it wasn't taco stuff they filled it with, it was some chicken Milanese, some marina sauce, and some mozzarella cheese. And yes, it was as good as your involuntary drooling suggests. The bread, chicken, and sauce were all tasty. Also, they didn't pile on the cheese or the sauce, so it wasn't a mess to eat. Not that it would matter; they have napkin dispensers on the table, and the napkins were the good kind. Not the super small useless kind you get at some places. As for the place itself, it's nice and clean, and not cramped, though it does have a bunch of tables. The staff are also nice (and clean), and also friendly. It also wasn't hard to find a place to park, not surprising given that it's right on Melrose (and that I went on a Wednesday, when parking on the side streets wasn't restricted). Totally planning to go back, though I think I'll get the meatball one, or maybe the Straccetti, which seems to be a version of a Philly Cheesesteak. read more

What makes a good sandwich? It's the bread obviously. Sandough got that down. They just need to get their system down. I waited 30 minutes for two sandwiches and people that ordered after me got their order before me. I would have waited longer if I didn't say anything. I was talking to one of the guys that was finishing the sandwiches and he mentioned that DoorDash is bombarding them. They should only use DoorDash when they're not busy during the lunch hour. They should turn it off. Take care of the customers that are in your restaurant. I ordered the pastrami and the mortadella sandwich and the flavors were great so as far as the food it's a 4 1/2 to 5 Star restaurant but the service needs a lot of help. I definitely will go back, but I will definitely will wait until they're a little bit more seasoned as far as service goes. If you do decide to try Sandough, understand they've only been open for four months. Be prepared to wait for your sandwich. read more

This new spot on Melrose is such a gem if you want a fun pizza/sandwich hybrid! I got the chicken milanese which was stuffed with thin and crispy chicken cutlets, cheese, and vodka sauce, all inside their puffy, chewy, perfectly charred pizza dough. I found this hard to eat as a handheld sandwich and definitely required some fork and knife action, but thought it was absolutely delicious. It was fast and easy to order at the counter, and I waited about 10 minutes for my dish to be ready. They have some seating inside as well as a few tables outside, so it's a pretty casual environment which is perfect if you're looking to grab a quick bite. We ordered a chicken Caesar sandough and split it between the two of us. This was more than enough food for us, but I would recommend getting two separate sandoughs if you're really hungry. Next time, we are going to try the pastrami sandough. My fiancé wanted a side of the Caesar sauce because the salad was dressed, but the chicken inside wasn't so he wanted more sauce to dip. They didn't have small options so he had to pay three dollars for a large cup of Caesar on the side. It was pretty excessive for the size of our sandwich. I would recommend for them to offer tiny cups for dipping or that they drizzle their Cesar sandough with a little bit more dressing. Other than that, really big experience! First time visiting this place, and it will definitely be the last. There were only three customers ahead of us, yet the cashier immediately said the wait would be 45 minutes to an hour because they were supposedly "slammed." Looking around, the restaurant was nowhere near busy, which made the excuse even more ridiculous. It honestly seems like they care more about online orders than the customers standing right in front of them. If that's the case, they should be upfront about it instead of wasting people's time. I would not recommend anyone make the drive to this establishment just to receive this level of poor service and disorganization. This spot is officially on my favorites list. They serve up some seriously good sandwich-style pizzas with dough made fresh daily, and you can tell from the first bite. Everything is made to order, which makes the whole experience feel elevated and worth it. The Parma was a standout for me--the prosciutto looked and tasted super fresh. I just heard of this new place off Melrose. The new concept, (Italian Taco.) I see people.love the food but complaining about the wait time. I'm a line cook in LA at fine dining. Some people complaining about the wait...30 min or so. Why complaining? Common sense, it's all homemade from scratch. The dough takes time, process to rise, etc. The folded pizzas are just that. Baking time needed. Real food takes a bit of time. I don't understand why people think, it's like subway, (all artificial.) made in a minute. if you don't wanna wait, go to Mc Donald's or subway. If you want fresh & delish! Be patient & understand those cooks and staff are working their butts off, every morning before the sun comes up preparing fresh food for the day ahead. Can't wait to try. Hey so this is very very good. Got my food pretty quickly and the quality was great. Lots of seating indoors and outdoors. They even have a back patio. It's on Melrose so it's your typical street parking, which I usually don't mind finding if you're okay walking a few blocks. It's right next to Groundling's teaching school. I had the Funghi. It was a wonderful mix of mushrooms, garlic, and cheese. It was kind of like having a mild garlic bread, which was a nice surprise. read more

I like this place but I don't get the hype. It was a cool spot. A lot of love and care went into designing the interior, but it was still just a sandwich. The flavors were good, but the portion was small relative to the price. If you spend $20 on a sandwich, you shouldn't still be hungry after. I had the prosciutto sandwich and half the Nutella sandwich and left hungry. For me, the biggest thing that could up the experience was the dough. Our dough was really tough and hard to bite into. I felt like I had to really rip it with my teeth just to get a bite out of it, which made it unenjoyable to eat. Getting something that's easier to chew would do wonders I don't know if I just got a bad order? Maybe the dough was overcooked, but I was not a fan. The meats were all quality though. I feel like I'd try it one more time to see if I got a bad order but of the two sandwiches I tried this time I was not impressed. I don't know. I never like leaving a poor review so proper props where props are due: love the unique idea and everyone was super nice and the place was clean and well put together. It's by no means bad. The store is decent size for a sandwich shop . The tables inside the dining area were a little dirty usually not a good sign if the staff doesn't wipe the tables down after each customer visits . The staff is ok they greeted us but not very knowledgeable recommending any of the popular sandwiches they seem to have lackluster energy . After some prodding and not much help from the cashier we decided to go with the pastrami and the mortadella sandwich with some kettle chips and mango lemonade . The mortadella sandwich was good they gave a nice amount of deli cuts in the sandwich the quality was decent they substituted the cheese for me which was really nice the bread was warm had a nice doughy texture to it . The pastrami sandwich was a little underwhelming the meat was a little bit tough and chewy it's probably due to the fact that they were super thick cuts little too much thickness. I also wasn't a big fan of the sauce on the sandwich it had too much mustard sauce it over powered the sandwich . I would not reorder the pastrami again but the mortadella was good . The staff seem so miserable and they openly bicker with each other in front of customers. One woman was on the grill and doing almost everything herself. I have reviewed Sandough previously, but I am BACK AGAIN. I just ordered their Calabrese sandwich and their pastrami and WOOWOW. The Calibrese is incredibly flavorful with an amazing kick to it. Almost like I got a full meal; a Salad with a side of breadsticks or something. I did order take out so I wanted to try something that would still be amazing if it wasn't perfectly fresh. I also ordered the pastrami and it is the most moist, flavorful pastrami ive ever had. Usually when I get pastrami places it can be dry or lack flavor but no, not here. Here the Pastrami is moist all the way through and just packed with amazing flavors esp with the mustard to complement it. I almost want to miz these two sandwiches I feel like that would be so good!! All in all, I already can't wait to come back here!
