Loved the eclectic modern American menu and the ingredients, prep and presentation did not disappoint! It lives up to its reputation and reviews. One of my favorite brunch spots! I have been here both on the weekend and on a weekday. I usually like to go during the weekdays because less of a line and wait. You really can't go wrong with what you order. I usually try to get something with egg in it, whether it's an omelette or scramble. If I want something sweet, I like to order French toast or pancakes. And if I want something sweet and savory, the sweet potato tots will do the trick. The service was good, but the eggs were inedible -- I think due to whatever oil they are using for cooking. The eggs had a really gross coconut flavor and the oil coated my mouth with that flavor. Butter on the pancake was similarly gross. The (drip) coffee also tasted funny. We were seated in the front of the outdoor patio and I kept worrying a car was going to collide with us. I've eaten here a few times over the years where I have enjoyed the "Marnier" (French Toast) and their blueberry pancakes, which is sweet but tasty. Today's experience however was not good. The food was tasteless and for such a basic breakfast dish which were scrambled eggs that were bright yellow (not fresh eggs but some concoction), potatoes were just ok and it came with just 1 piece of sourdough toast. My eating companion had the turkey panini which she enjoyed. I had a bite. It was tasty but too spicy for me. The service was poor. My food came out before my dining companion's. I asked the waiter, "when will her food arrive?" He said, "in 5 minutes." I asked him, "why don't you bring them out together so that I don't eat in front of her?" He said, "that's how we do it." When he did bring her dish he said to me, "thanks for your patience." From the manner in which he said it, we both took that comment as a jab. My companion and I never mind paying for food that's expensive (which this is for what you get), so long as the food is tasty. Can't seem to find it on the menu, but we ordered the bacon sampler. There were 4 strips and they were thick, making its texture different from ordinary bacon. The flavors were also a lot stronger (more salty than oily) than ordinary bacon, and the sample included a unique spicy bacon and citrus bacon. It's definitely worth a try. I also ordered a Florentine Benedict for myself. It was kind of ordinary but tasted really good nonetheless. If you're craving Eggs Benedict you can't go wrong with theirs. I'm not a big fan of breakfast foods but this really opened my eyes. I got the black stone which was absolutely delicious. The eggs Benedict were served on top of their signature millionaire bacon, asparagus and a slice of bread served with a side of potatoes. The dish had 4 pieces of bacon which were thick, tender, and juicy. Once I cut into the eggs, the yolk oozed mixed with the hollandaise sauce and soaked the bread and added to the incredible flavor. The side of potatoes was very well salted and very colorful. We also got the millionaire bacon sampler dish with flavors like citron, original, cinnamon, and rosemary. Each had their own distinct flavor and it was hard to pick my favorite. Also a bottle of champagne never hurt and really capped off the experience. We got there for a late brunch on Friday and waited a little less than an hour but it was definitely worth the wait. The dishes are a bit on the pricier side but overall considering it's San Fran, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious brunch spot. read more

I was in San Francisco for the first time for a conference, looking for a place within walking distance of the Japantown hotel hosting said conference. A colleague said "millionaire bacon from Sweet Maple!" and I knew I had to check it out. You know a place is good when it's always busy, but luckily we ate a late lunch and had no trouble snagging a table. My table figured we had to try this infamous millionaire bacon, so we split an order. Let me say this, I typically don't love bacon, but I'm drooling over my keyboard just remembering the thick strips, perfectly cooked and covered in brown sugar, cayenne, red and black pepper. My order of breakfast tacos was more than enough food - bummed I didn't have a fridge to take it back with me as I couldn't finish it all. So, so good. Let's just say I loved Sweet Maple so much, I went back for brunch my last day in SF and got an Athenian omelet. Once again, fantastic. But, beware: you cannot use more than two credit cards per table. My group of three, all paying with business credit cards, were stuck figuring out how to divvy it up and pay each other back. I live close to this restaurant and every weekend there is a line that extends half the block. With that kind of line every weekend, I was thrilled when we walked in around opening one Saturday morning and they were able to seat us fairly quickly. The food is good, but I have to say it is just way too overpriced. I go to Jane's on Fillmore frequently and Noosh (both nearby brunch options) and it just should not be as $$ as it is! Sweet Maple is a solid breakfast spot. I came shortly after opening several weeks ago and was seated right away in a lovely outdoor spot. There was a QR code at the table to scan for the menu. I asked the server's opinion and ordered the Big Hip and added berries to it. I also ordered a coconut cream latte (pro tip: it doesn't come with espresso as listed, you have to add it if you want it). Both were excellent! The latte was hot and creamy in a really unique way. The French toast was also really good, although definitely not something you can have on the regular. I actually preferred the softer interior of the dish rather than the crispy exterior which I think is generally the draw of the dish so I would probably get something else next time, but it was still a solid dish. I hope they're able to keep the outdoor dining even once the pandemic is over -- it was really relaxing to be able to sit outside and be a part of the neighborhood morning goings on! read more

This is the original location of the Millionaire's bacon, which is thick sliced bacon with maple syrup. At 9:30am, we had to wait 5 minutes to be seated at the bar because it was packed already, so I cannot imagine what the wait would be like at peak brunch times. It was great that we sat at the bar because we planned to get bottomless mimosas. At $22 per person, you get your money's worth by drinking 2 mimosas because each mimosa costs $11. We shared the Millionaire's Bacon flight and Southern benedict. There are five different types of mimosas: the original (orange), raspberry, grapefruit, strawberry, and the blue one that I forgot what it was. We tried one of each for each of us, and we got an additional raspberry as our 6th mimosa. We were just buzzed at the end...so I don't know if it's just us or if the drinks are not that strong. Knocking 1 star for this unfortunately. The Millionaire's Bacon flight contains 4 different types of Millionaire's bacon, so if you are on a "low carb" diet (arguably the syrup has carbs), this is the best choice. 1 bacon is $8 so you might as well get the flight if you are sharing with other people. The flight contains original, citron, cinnamon, and rosemary. The original is just the standard maple syrup cooked thick bacon, which is pretty delicious. You can get that pretty much in the sister restaurants as well, which include Berkeley Social Club, Surisan, and Kitchen Story. The Citron has orange and sea salt, providing a nice flavor enhancement to the original. The Cinnamon has a strong cinnamon flavor with some chipotle, and it has a nice sweetness rather than bitterness even though it looks burnt. The Rosemary has a really nice rosemary smell and is probably my favorite. For each of the pieces, even though the bacon has fat as expected, it was delectable fat, not the ones in cheap bacon where I would spit it out because it is unnecessary. The Southern benedict contains chorizo, cherry pepper, tomato, and chipotle hollandaise. This was average, as the tomato was a bit watery and the chorizo is somewhat flavorful. The egg is poached and runny, which was a plus. This was what my friend ordered, so while I did not really enjoy it, she said that it was really good. The potatoes (home fries) on the side are decent, and they have a great variety because it is not just regular potatoes; there are purple potatoes and yams too. Service was perfect. The waitress was accommodating when we asked if we can try out all the flavors. What she said about switching flavors once was confusing, but we at least were able to try out all the flavors. The menu did say bottomless mimosas of the same variety, but I guess that could mean same variety for a particular round. As we are about to finish the mimosas, the waitress is prepared to get a pitcher of the other kind of flavored mimosa. By the time we finished, from the back, the waitress immediately refilled our empty glasses. We did not feel rushed, and the waitress gave us sufficient time within the 1.5 hour time limit to enjoy the bottomless mimosas. I think we stayed a little over as it took a bit of time to pay, but at least the restaurant is honest and does not cut you off before the time limit unlike some places in San Francisco. read more

Tasteful outside area set on the corner with tables far apart, online menu available if you didn't want to touch the paper menus, extremely clean bathrooms, and kind efficient personnel. I loved it! The bacon was delicious. I didn't have the million dollar one so I can only imagine what it was like. The fresh fruit on the pancakes were ripe and sweet and the side potatoes, sweet and maybe red or Yukon, were out of this world as well. I tried the steamed eggs because I had never had them and they are supposed to be healthier than an omelette. I'll try the omelette next time. Citron - sweet glaze that's similar to Taiwanese pork jerky Original - salty and spiced (my favorite of the 4) Cinnamon - light but present cinnamon, sweet Rosemary - sweet peppery Egg Benedict with smoked salmon - nothing exciting. If you're a fan of multicolored starches, it might be for you. Very run of the mill. Seems like the bacon is what gets everyone I'm the door. I'm glad I tried it. The food is good; there is no questioning that, but this is another restaurant that I will not be going to again unless they change their "tip" policy. This is due to the 20% AUTOMATIC add on. A "tip" is supposed to be based on appreciating the good service provided by the server. It is NOT supposed to be an automatically given commodity. This place also adds in a 6% SF fee...sorry, I'm not paying an automatic 26% fee above and beyond the cost of a meal no matter how good it is. They definitely had their outdoor system and protocols down pat and it was great to see they were keeping safe while also providing a dining experience. For takeout - you should order online. I tried to order over the phone, only to find some of my favorites were not available due to a limited menu. After ordering, it was ready in 10 mins! Of course, I must talk about the Millionaire's bacon. I had the sampler and while they were all delicious, my favorite is still the classic. The sweet but also spicy goodness is just *chef's kiss* perfection. Portions are huge and can easily be leftovers/snack for later! We had Swedish Pancakes and Deep Fried French Toast in our most recent order. Both were good, but definitely on the sweeter side! (Which says a lot because I definitely have a sweet tooth!) I also added a side of Potato Medley. The potatoes are sooooo good. The combination of potatoes and herbs complement each other so well!
