Since moving to Austin the BBQ capital we have only tried 3 places. But I have not found THE BBQ joint I will keep hunting. Shoot me a message let me know other BbQ joint First time here at Vinny's ordered 2 plate rib & sausage & hubby had brisket sandwich. The best is the service he was so friendly , quick and even checked up on us while we ate in the car. Rib- great Smokey flavor, tender, juicy & very tasty more on the sour side then sweetness. Not over coated with sauce just enough to actually taste the natural delicious rib. Sausage- WOW! One of the best I have ever had perfectly smoked, tender and the spices was on point Potato salad- absolutely amazing not to tart or not to sweet just a perfect blend of magic. BBQ beans- it was okay more on vinegar side. For my beans I like it sweeter just like how grandma would make Brisket sandwich- husband did not speak to me it was good.. I did manage to take a piece and it was tender and seasoned I will definitely return and try the turkey leg Thank you to Big Vinny for cooking with love!!! I can actually taste the passion

The brisket and the sausage are both very flavorful. I don't know if it's merely because of the tangy taste of the bbq sauce is too powerful but the beans is kinda plain though.

When in Austin, dine at a food truck. While exploring South Congress Avenue, my friend and I stopped at this food truck for lunch. There were tables with umbrellas to block out the sun, and a refreshing breeze so it was quite pleasant to eat there, despite the heat of the day. I decided to order the 2 meat plate and chose the Pork Spare Ribs and Sausage, along with the following 2 sides: Street Corn and Potato Salad. Those Pork Spare Ribs were AMAZING. Seriously, some of the best I have ever had. The meat tasted almost candied, and was slightly crispy with nice smoky taste. There was a sweet and savory flavor that came through and no additional sauce needed. The meat was also perfectly tender, juicy, and oh so well seasoned. The Sausage was also tasty and very juicy, boasting yummy spices, and delightfully flavorful. Street corn was good, but as I ate more of it, found the sauce to be quite spicy and I couldn't handle it. The Potato Salad was decent, and covered with paprika. The potatoes were cooked well and ingredients combined together cohesively. I just didn't eat much of it because I wanted to finish more of the mains. The meal also came with Texas toast (just white bread - no butter on this one), as well as pickles and raw onion. The person behind the counter, cooking and serving the food was really nice and chill. Although I was hesitant about ordering BBQ from a food truck, I was definitely satisfied with the meal and it truly delivered delicious home-cooked BBQ, especially those Pork Spare Ribs.

The worst brisket Ive ever had. Myself and several coworkers ordered brisket from here through a lunch service. The meat was extremely well done to the point some of it was not edible. There was no flavor to the meat. I've grown up on brisket and bbq and this was the worst that I have ever had!!!

Big Vinny's... been hearing about this place for a minute. Every fiber of my soul told me to go and get Brisket from this place. What an experience! I walked up and the guy inside says "hey, what's your name?" I tell him "Tah". He says Tah. I'm Big Vinny. "How are you today?" I told him "I am amazing, stupendous, miraculous and I am hearing all about your fantastic grub." He smiled with the confidence if a 15 foot gorilla in a world of 2 foot tall monkeys. I asked if he preferred me to use cash or card. We had a brief and pleasant convo on how cash benefits us both, so I ran back to my truck and got cash. I ordered $20 of lean brisket. Fam... socks knocked completely off!!! This was the thickest, most satisfying cuts of brisket I have had to date. This is not the dainty, thin sliced brisket they serve at 99% of the barbecue joints in Austin. This is Brisket for a brisket lover. Even though the meat was leaan, there was the perfect amount of fat on the edges and the char on the ends was PERFECT! I feel like I got more than the amount I asked for. Big Vinny told me he appreciated my positive energy. Game recognize game Big Vinny! Thanks for the amazing energy and the AWESOME brisket! I will be back with a $20 spot ready for some top notch brisket again really soon and I'm bringing friends and telling everyone. That should totally be on the menu... TWENTY-DOLLA-BRISKET.... Let's go. I cosign this place 100% just go there... tell him Tah sent you!!!

This place was conveniently located half a mile from the best dessert place (MANOLIS) so we decided to stop by and it did not disappoint. Came here on a Sunday afternoon and there was no wait. There are three small tables for people to enjoy their food in and they were all available. I got the two meat plate- brisket- YUM Sausage- super delicious, i usually don't get sausage ever but they were out of the ribs so I decided to get this. Potato salad- again, not something I usually get but it was delicious Coleslaw- fresh and food We left very satisfied and great price!

I am visiting Austin the first time. I went to Terry Black's bbq. It was ok. I thought Texas bbq was not my thing. Today, I passed by Big Vinny's bbq. There was no line. I decided to give myself another try. I got moist brisket, pork bbq, street corn, and potato salad. They were all good! I enjoyed that the meat was served warm. The fat of the brisket was evenly spread out. The bbq sauce on the side was not just purely sweet and with good flavor. The sides were good as well. The price was very reasonable.

Updated review below. TL:DR - it was great. I originally had a poor delivery experience when I first ordered from Big Vinny's. Both the owner and head smoker reached out to discuss what happened and convinced me to stop by and try the food again. I'm very glad I did. When presented properly, the food was really good. I loved the rub they used on the meat. The sides were good, too. The corn had a bit of spice and the bbq sauce was a thinner vinegary sauce that had a good tang to it. Both gentlemen I referenced above were friendly and inviting when I stopped by, even before they knew I had a challenging experience before. Happy to go back back again. Thanks! Dry brisket. The sausage was surprisingly overcooked too, something I've never experienced before.

Pretty disappointing experience from all the glowing reviews on here. The brisket was remarkably dry. I ordered 1 lb and received what looked like a messy pile of scraps and some pieces that were sliced with the grain so they were tough and chewy. The pork rib I got was from the end and was more like a piece of jerky than a rib. Not sure if I got served leftovers from the previous day because I ordered shortly after opening. Good amount of smoke in the meat buy nothing else positive to say. The coleslaw also tasted a little strange and I tossed it after a bite. Maybe it was an off day but it was bad enough that I won't be back to try again with so many better options in town.

Little confusing why there isn't a long line here. Epic brisket. Not overcooked like so many places. Almost medium rare. Reasonable prices. Great "street corn". Ok Cole slaw. Seriously $11 for a half lbs or so of brisket plus two sides, plus seating with umbrella cover right on south Congress. Felt like a steal. No line too at 1pm on a Sunday. They said they were almost sold out, lots of Uber eats business. I'm surprised there wasn't more. Glad the famous bbq place up the street had a long line!

First time at Big Vinny's. The brisket was moist, tender, and had a good bark. The turkey was my favorite even though the brisket was excellent. It (the turkey) was also moist and tender and cut against the fibers for a real fall-apart experience. Liked the potato salad and the slaw was pretty good but not the standouts that the meats were. No wait at the trailer so that's another plus. Would go again and see what some other things taste like.

Yum yum. My first stop after arriving in Austin for the weekend because I was craving some good Texas BBQ. And definitely not disappointed! The man working in the food stand was super friendly and helped me pick the Brisket Sandwich special - also recommended the Frito pie which I'll have to go back and get sometime! Brisket was so smoky and tender and moist. Didn't even need the bun but I ate it anyways of course. Got a side of Cole slaw which was crisp and perfect balance to the meat. And of course a Topo to wash it down with. 100% recommend this place for a bite if you're strolling down South Congress! read more

This is quite possibly the best meal I have ever had. I spent one day in Austin and was lucky to find this gem. Ordered the brisket with potato salad and Cole slaw. The brisket had the consistency of butter, best I've had. Potato salad was strongly seasoned, which I liked, the cole slaw was average. Just departing Austin and Big Bunny's made our trip home to California much sweeter. We ordered Brisket and Shredded pork sandwich plates. Our sides were a double order of coleslaw (excellent). The portions are generous and their sauce is delicious. The meats are smoked to perfection, spicey but not el fuego! You can bring your own beverages. Very friendly and helpful server. First off I want to give a big shout out to Brian for taking good care of me. I ordered the two meat and two sides and it was priced just right. I got the brisket and the sausage with potato salad and cole slaw. The brisket and sausage were both really good and the sauce was perfect. Now surprisingly I LOVED the potato salad and I'm extremely picky when it comes to potato salad. The cole slaw was pretty good. Good BBQ done right. Got the brisket, ribs, sausage, all to go, came with a generous amount of vinegary barbeque sauce. It all hit the spot perfectly. Coleslaw and street corn were also winners. Great barbecue food truck on South Congress! Really awesome owner and pretty good barbecue. I got the two plate combo with brisket and baby back ribs. Big Vinny's BBQ was opened years ago with authentic Texas BBQ! The company perfected its recipes and has been selling BBQ rub, BBQ sauce, as well as other products online for years. The original company name was TX BBQ EXPRESS, but with the addition of a full service BBQ trailer, Big Vinny's BBQ was launched! Big Vinny's has perfected its recipes and takes pride in consistent, yet simple Texas BBQ. We look forward to serving you!

When we went our choices were $9-$10 donut base desserts. I say base because the toppings cover up the donut visually. Despite that, there's no covering that scrumptious taste and texture. Wowaweea. We had the Puddin': cream cheese icing, vanilla pudding, fresh bananas with nilla wafers. According to the menu. Ours didn't have any nilla wafers and the presentation was uneven, hence the four stars. I didn't miss the wafers. The icing and pudding were one goopy topping and the bananas slices were half scattered slices and half banana chunk that I had to separate. Side notes: Gourdough sits on a corner with parking spots that are not free. There's a pay via QR code so you'll need a phone or something to scan that. Boo for digital shackles. Next note- I feel like this is a low key meet up spot. Like the way they tried to make the first train cars on the MTA the singles car? There was a series of singles getting doughnuts and they were a little done up for the occasion. Who knows. With the little IG ready love seats and doughnuts made for sharing, you could walk away with extra sugar.

Completely worth the brief excursion away from downtown.

My beautiful girlfriend, traveling home from Vancouver, had a morning layover in Austin just recently on a weekday, and I got us a reservation to Paperboy East. Compared to the weekends, their schedule was a lot more open. On the weekends it can be nearly impossible to get a spot unless it's a few weeks in advance. We had a reservation at 8 am right when they opened, and when we walked in, we were seated immediately. The place looks like a modern twist on the old-school diners your grandparents love. There's also an upstairs and downstairs patio. Plenty of space! We were sat at one of the two-person tables. To start, I ordered their house drip coffee while my girlfriend got their "Lil Remi," an iced cappuccino with salted caramel. The black coffee was excellent and flavorful, while my girlfriend thought her Lil Remi was like a milkier shaken espresso that she really liked. From their starters, we ordered their Blueberry Lemon Pop Tart to share. I am a sucker for a homemade Pop Tart, and the jam on the inside was extremely fresh, and the icing and crust of the Pop Tart itself was sturdy and full of flavor. For our entrees, I ordered their Texas Hash with added avocado while my girlfriend ordered their famous Paperboy Pancake with chocolate chips as a full breakfast with bacon and two over-hard eggs. For being an upscale diner in the prime area of Austin, I knew Paperboy was going to be pricey, but I honestly thought that it would crack $100 before tip between the two of us. I was very happy to see it was not even close to that and cost us about $80 with tip. To me, that felt fair for Austin, and I would pay that price any day of the week for a breakfast like we had. I'm We came across this BBQ food truck on a street corner and were lucky to catch it just before closing. The owner wasn't there, but his father--who looked to be in his 70s--was running things solo and still took the time to warmly welcome us. Despite being near closing, he was incredibly kind and generous. He took our order with a smile, served us complimentary sweet tea along with the meal, and even gave us an extra half-pound of brisket at no charge. The food was satisfying and hearty. The brisket was tender and juicy, with a beautifully rendered fat cap and a nice bark around the edges. The texture was spot on--moist and easy to pull apart without being greasy. The ribs were equally impressive: soft, well-cooked, and effortlessly pulled away from the bone. What made the experience special wasn't just the food, but the man behind the counter. His warmth, willingness to chat, and pride in what he does created a memorable, down-to-earth moment that made us feel like regulars. Just ask for "B. Miller" Big Vinny's was probably our biggest off-the radar discovery while visiting Austin. What is essentially a tiny shack on a street corner serves up some incredible barbecue. We took it down and sat next to friend's eating at Torchy's tacos and made them all jealous. The whole Big Vinny experience left me with two really outstanding takeaways. 1. They have some incredible, perfectly seasoned, melt-in-your-mouth brisket. 2. As good as the food is the side of friendly banter from V. Miller, the man serving things up behind the counter. He is related to Big Vinny (who also apparently manages gentlemen's clubs) and an all-around nice guy to chat with. It was a satisfying ending to a very good meal. Will I go back? Yes.

The truck was set up at the brewery, so there's plenty of seating--inside, shaded, or in the sun--and drinks come from the brewery itself. The Pork Steak was dry, and I did not care for the seasoning however, I ate only one half of the Pork Steak and the following morning, I wrapped the other half in foil, put it in the oven for about 30 minutes at 250 and I actually enjoyed it. As for the sides, I chose the Mac n Cheese and Green Beans and believe me, there was no excitement to be found. I believe in giving a venue a second chance so I will return to check out their smoked meats and hopefully I won't be disappointed.

I also tried the chopped brisket (brisket and burnt ends sitting in a soup of BBQ sauce). That was also delicious (and more reasonably priced), but I could have done with slightly less sauce. It really was like a soup and while the sauce was tasty, there was too much of it. I went later in the afternoon (around 2/2:30pm) and got their last two beef ribs so going earlier is better. You order at the open kitchen and then pay at the counter when your food is ready. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, you can take your food and sit at any of their tables of which they have many (this place is pretty big). I cannot comment on how this place stacks up to other BBQ spots in Austin, but I very much enjoyed the beef ribs.
