This is a three star review based solely upon a cup of soft serve ice cream with bits of Reese's. It was basically a Dairy Queen Blizzard, except the candy was blended well into the ice cream--something I was a fan of. Still, it's just ok. It's nothing I'm going to rant and rave about. The service was quick enough and the people working there were friendly, but it's nothing to go out of your way for. I will say, I'm a big fan of a greasy burger, so we'll see how they stack up if I ever return for that. read more

We were in the drive thru last night and saw 20-30 rats climbing around the dumpsters and in the bushes, even running across the parking lot. Review of custard only When you step into Culvers, you will think you have gone back to 1968. First, the store is the cleanest fast food joint I have ever seen and reminds me of a soda fountain from Pleasantville. I was amazed that though the venue is like a fast food place, they have some interesting choices that gives the menu a greater variety than a competitor who can have seventeen ways to serve a beef patty on bread. (Do they know they are not fooling anyone?) Really, though, I only had the custard. I ordered wrong when I asked for the smores and the vanilla. The smores was made with chocolate custard, which I am not a fan of. I was really surprised with how smooth and light it was. I thought it was great! The vanilla I favored, but you have to admit, for a guy who does not care for chocolate ice cream (for obvious reasons... you know what is in that stuff???) it was great. Maybe there is actual chocolate in it rather than sawdust and drippings from all the other flavors like the other guys do it! read more

GUYS. When I moved to Austin and Husboy and I saw how fit everyone was, I was like "Alright, I'm tired of fast food anyway. It's all Mississippi has, out side of the obligatory Chinese buffets, casino buffets, and chain delicacies, such as Applebee's." So, I basically stopped eating all of the things that I lived off of during high school and college in Mississippi. Taco Bell? On occasion. So, Mississippi does not have a Culver's. OH MAN. It's so good. It's SO good. That single Culver's Deluxe is so juicy, is around 390 calories, and it just tastes so perfect. Skip the fries. They're just crinkle cut. FRIED CHEESE CURDS is where it's AT. Sure, it's an extra $1.10 to your measly $5.50 order. DO IT. It's a great mix of fried mild cheddar and mild mozzarella, and they come with some really, really good Red Gold Marinara sauce. Ice cream. It's no Amy's BUT it's very creamy, very custardy, and very delicious. It's easily the best fast food ice cream I've ever had. read more

I'm not one to often review a fast food chain... but since I had never before in my life tried Culver's, and since to me, they weren't a staple growing up, it was a new experience, indeed. As far as a fast food burger goes, I'd give it about 4 stars. The frozen, crinkle cut fries drop 'em to three. I mean, in my book, there isn't a fast food burger joint that can touch Whataburger, but this place has an attitude and flavor of its own... namely, the chocolate malt. So my friends and I decided to check this place out again, but this time for some real grub and we were pleasantly surprised. I got the double butterburger which far exceeded my expectations. The meat was much better than your avg fast food chain and the red onion complimented the burger well. Also, the appetizers were devastatingly good as usual. Of course we didn't feel too great afterwards due to the grease, but hey, we knew what we were getting ourselves into the moment we walked in. So the other day I was cruisin' down Brodie in my automobile when I had a sudden urge for ice cream. I fought the good fight, but in the end I lost and found myself pulling into Culver's drive-thru. I got a concrete mixer with blueberries, and OH MY GOSH was it good. Delicious perfection. I tried to eat it as I drove home, and naturally the first spoonful fell onto my lap. But you know what was great about that? I basically just dropped blueberries. Whole blueberries! Easy to clean up, and a delightful surprise! The thing was chock full o' whole blueberries. In case you didn't know, blueberries are only like the healthiest fruit there is, practically. So I wasn't being all that bad. Really. I want another one right now. Thank goodness I don't live close because I don't know that I could resist going there every three or four hours. And I really don't want to double my size any time soon. By the way, don't get the concrete mixer with Oreos. They grind those suckers down so small that it's just not worth it. read more

We were driving by here which is between the new house and Home Depot and decided to eat some burgers. I only figured out this place was a restaurant a few months ago. I'd driven by for years thinking it was a dry-cleaning chain! When I walked in, it sort of reminded me of the Braums chain in Dallas, but without the groceries. Burgers were average. Better than fast food, but nothing like Dan's which is where I wished I'd taken my Dad since he was in from Dallas. Fries . . . well I hate crinkle fries. The service though was great. Everything is brought to the table by a smiling employee and even picked up and thrown away! I'd consider visiting again for something else on the vast sandwich menu besides the burgers. read more

So, I find myself at Kwik Lube on a Saturday afternoon with a 45 minute wait with low blood sugar and needing food. So, I look across the street at Taco Smell then next door to Culver's.. Not wanting stinky farts for the rest of the day I headed to Culver's. The Butter Burgers sounded like a heart attack waiting to happen; so, I ordered a Grilled Cheese and a Banana Milkshake - very tasty! This place has a 1365 calorie milkshake (The tall turtle concrete) and a 2185 calorie chicken plate (4 piece). You can get 3550 calories here in one sitting which is what I call VALUE!! In the end, I don't really care for this place. I think there are much better burger places in town, but if you want to get all the calories you need for a day and a half in one sitting, this is definitely at the top of my list. read more

So I've been under the weather lately and found myself in that 3.5 star decision making situation yesterday. I needed comfort food, and as I was driving by Culver's, I decided to drive *through* Culver's. I was pleased to see that they offered up some pot roast at the drive through, and given my current state, that seemed a no-brainer. What I got, however, was a little overrated (if you compare it to, well, other pot roasts). The meat was tender enough, and I realize that this is fast food, but the gravy was super salty, enough so that it took me a little by surprise. Ultimately I'm certain that I'll try these guys agan, if for no other reason that they're an easy commute. But maybe next time I'll attack a burger. And maybe next time, the only thing saltier than any quick-flip gravy will be my language when I eat it. read more

For a while, I just got the special custard of the day. My favorite is with blackberries and raspberries. It is 10 times better than soft serve. I am always hesitant about fast food because I don't want to eat an ingredient I can't pronounce or wouldn't put in food myself. A butterburger means there is a bit of butter folded into the patty, I think. There are worse things that could be added to your beef. The snack pack is the perfect size for a quick dinner. The fries were tasty and the burger's bun was so yummy, crisp and soft. It would have been so much better, though, if they had lettuce and tomato with it. I got home and found only pickles. I realize it is a more affordable choice, but I would like to have known I was just getting a bun and meat samich. The cheese curds are a favorite of a friend of mine. When it comes to fast food, burgers give me the creeps. That being said, I don't eat a fast food burger often, but from what i can recall - Culver's wins at quick burgers. The patties are thin, cooked with a crispy edge. I like the patty melt, on sourdough w/ onions and cheese. They also serve things like fish sandwiches, pot roast and meatloaf. C'mon - that's so much better than McD or Wendy's, right? Also, cheese curds - eat them. Did i mention the custard? OMG - better than ice cream. The daily custard flavor changes, errr - daily. This place is pretty solid for a fast food burger joint. The burgers all taste really fresh, plus they have crinkle cut fries, and those are pretty slamming. They also specialize in frozen custard treats which are all very tasty, the staff are all usually really young, high school aged kids, but usually very polite, and well mannered. This is a tough one...I was very impressed with their customer service. I paid w/credit card and when it was handed back to me, the employee called me by my first name and thanked me for my order. I've never had any employee that has swiped my cc take that much time to notice my name, so on that level I have to give the employees kudos! The food however did not bowl me over nearly as well. The burger bun looked like it had been sat on prior to being put on top of my burger. There was good flavor, and much better than a typical fast food burger, but I did think it was pretty small. It's been quite a while since I've had a Culver's burger and it seems like the size and quality has gone down somewhat. The cheese curds were OK, but I wasn't overly impressed. I didn't eat many b/c I knew I was already pushing my calorie limit for the week with the dessert I ordered. That's where I ended up w/the most disappointment. I adore cheesecake ice cream, so that was my main reason for stopping at Culver's. I noticed on their website these guys had a mixer that contained not just cheesecake "flavor", but actual cheesecake. Well, I guess you could say it contains cheesecake if you count the TWO little slivers of cheesecake that were in my small size mixer, as actually containing cheesecake!! I do like the added cherries or rasberries, but if I wanted that to be the main attraction of my mixer, that's the flavor I would have ordered. I wanted CHEESECAKE! "Hunks of cheescake" was the description on their website. Not even remotely close!! I will probably give them another shot at some point, as I'm sure the custards are good, I was just not overly impressed with my food or the lack of cheesecake in their cheesecake mixer. read more

8 stars: Custard/Shakes. 0 stars: Burgers. The Bad: Perhaps Im not a butter burger fan, but to me these are some of the most horrific burgers Ive ever had in my life. They are bland, dripping with fat, and taste downright awful. For a chain burger place to have such terrible burgers... well, its just surprising. The Average: Being from Wisconsin, I have to say I do like the cheese curd. Their particular incarnation of them is above average and pretty darn tasty. On the other fried side of things, their french fries are pretty on par with the average in fast food. The OMG IVE DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN: Sweet Jesus on a pogo-stick. Whoever came up with the idea of lumping frozen custard and blending it up with fruit, candy bars, sugar, other natural flavors, etc... well, they were a genius. The raspberry shake here makes me shiver when I think about it. The way one spoons it out of the cup and it melts in your mouth. If there was a heaven, it would be buried in the middle of their frozen custard machine. Their custard "concrete" shakes are the best shakes ever. They are right up there with Braums. This is a great fast food spot. They have great food and are friendly. The only drawback? An immense menu that can actually be overwhelming. I took some friends that were visiting from out of town, and they took forever to decide what to order. I've had only one friend NOT like them. Her complaint was that the chicken fingers tasted more like fish than chicken. My recommendation? The swiss mushroom burger. My mouth is already watering!!! read more

This was my favorite burger place when I was living in Austin, Texas. My favorite burger is the bacon butterburger (no matter what size). They serve good grade beef and I like the part where they make the burger patty, thin and crunchy. This place is a fast food chain, sort of like McDonald's but not really. MickeyD is way behind culver' league. I hate mickeyD (the food tastes bad, chicken tastes like "not chicken", and beef tastes like "something else"). Also try the frozen custard in Culver's, I like the regular vanilla custard (it's to die for, especially in the summertime in texas). Now, I live in California, I have found a burger place that kinda match culver's, it is in&out burger (probably you should know this place if you are californian). But In&out burger still can't be compared to Culver's Bacon Butterburger yumminess! I like Culver's a lot! and I miss the frozen custard sooooo much. *sigh* So If you live in austin, TX. Give this place a try and I bet you'll like it. They have some other meals other than burgers and it's all good! read more

Mmmmm, Culvers..... Sorry had to wipe the drool off my lip. I recently started a 1200 calorie / day diet so I won't be able to come back here soon, however, if I were to go off my diet I would pick this place in a heartbeat. Not only are the burgers SO good their cheese curds are rockin'. Fried bites of dairy goodness, I mean really - who can resist? Their crinkle fries are always crispy on the outside and soft on the inside - how do they do it? No idea but it works. Also, I enjoy getting the kids meal as it comes with a FREE small frozen custard. Great deal and so yummy! As for ambiance I agree with a previous review that Culver's is cleaner and brighter than most fast food joints. I enjoy coming here and hope people continue to keep them in business. read more

OK...I really like this place and have for years. First off, I'm not a custard guy. So having that on the big ol' sign probably made me less likely to try it. And being from not here originally, I had no idea what a "butterburger" was, but it did not sound like a healthy choice, and all I could conjure was some sort of burger patty made out of butter. But, alas, the fact I always got gas next door, combined with curiousity getting the better of me, I tried it. And now I've been going for years and it is consistently on my list of burger places people need to try. The cons first: The menu can at times be confusing. I'm a picky eater, so I really like it when I can tell what ingredients are on what burgers, and in a drive through, I can get pretty confused pretty easily if someone calls something "deluxe". So if I like it the way I like it, I'm slumming it? What is a deluxe versus "all the way?" Basically, you can brand things like that if you're a big chain, but not little neighborhood restaurant franchise, it seems to me, unless you want confusion at the drive through. The burgers can actually also be smaller than you would think, so think junior burger when you order a regular size. I usually have to double the patties to get anything close to filling. But that's really where the cons end. The pros are many... I frankly really love the service there when I go inside, and the people that work there seem to really like it. I've been with kids and less like any burger joint I've ever seen, the workers (particularly the managers) just treat them like little adults with respect (and not disdain). They engage them, make them feel welcome, and appreciate their business (for they seem to know a LOT of their business comes from little tykes saying, "I WANT ICE CREAM! CULVERS!")...but they really like kids; at least the ones that are capable of showing them respect as well. It's a rare find these days. I also think the flavor packed into the burgers is really nothing short of amazing. As I said, the patties themselves are quite small and flat...It is not spicy, which I do like from other places, but it does zing nonetheless. The buns are toasted with butter, and the meat is just a wallop of flavor. I also love the way the cheese is melted, and it makes my mouth water just thinking about biting into one. So, yeah. I'm a big 'ol fan. Also, the fries. Oh, the french fries. My wife and I sometimes just drive through to get a big ol' family size fries. I could eat these crinkle cut sticks of wonder as a meal in itself. And I'm embarrassed to admit, a time or two when my lovely bride is out of town (so as to eliminate the witnesses), I've done just that. Me, in a dark place, bottle of ketchup, and a family sized fry of my own. ("We loves it, we loves it, we loves it Bilbo Baggins...we loves my Precious Fries!!", in my best Gollum voice). So, if the signs saying "butterburger" and "custard" keep you away, don't let it. Go there and enjoy. read more

Culvers makes a rather fine, if slightly expensive, burger. They use a good grade beef, their toppings are fresh and, unlike whataburger, you can see why it takes time for them to make your food. This place is my hubby & I's favorite Fat Kid splurge!! Being an East Coaster originally, I'd never heard of Culver's til Austin but boy I'm glad I did. Their frozen custard is way better than froyo (coming from an avid froyo fan) or even gelato! And do not get me STARTED on their Butterburgers. As the name suggests, they're melt-in-your-mouth good. Butter + Burger = foodie heaven. One caveat: Culver's is not the place for dieters & budgeters (but you prolly knew that already)! They do have great coupons frequently so we like to wait for those, like BOGO free Concrete Mixers / Double Butterburgers. Yes please! I'm surprised this place has just 3.5 stars. If I could eat here nightly, I would :) They're convenient to Austin southies (@ Wm Cannon & Brodie), and they have a new "Flavor of the Day" daily which is fun. Big fan! read more

Consistently great food and service! This is our go to place for non-gourmet burgers. There is plenty of meat on the burgers and the fires are the large cringle type which I like. This is how buger joints used to be 30+ years ago (cook when ordered) so definetly take the family here as they have many choices on the menu. Another great plus is that there are usually 2 for 1 coupons in the mail that lets you get 2 value baskets for the price of 1. read more

I've only had custard once on a trip to visit to a friend in Texas. She called it a concrete and said we had to try it- and she was right! It was a good memory. I decided to walk down memory lane and take my daughter to try custard since we've recently moved to the great state of Texas. Sort of a let down. We tried custard milkshakes (500 plus calories mind you, this better be good!). They were runny and had clumps of the candy mix-in we added on the bottom of the cup. It was a late night treat- near closing, and the drive thru was still hopping so I'm sure there must be something good here. It just wasn't the milkshakes. read more
